It would be fascinating if we landed number 2 just to see who Ainge would actually take ayton is going one and Doncic is the second best player. However Bagley and Bamba and Jackson all big guys would still be on the board does he go for the best player or then position of need.

If they land 2 or 3, but it's assumed ATL plans on taking Ayton at #1, I wonder if #2/#3 + Rozier + 2019 Grizzlies Pick gets us to #1 and Ayton?

Probably an empty question though, since we have to first GET the pick to begin with  :P

Just went to tankathon and the first simulation I did gave Boston the #2 pick. It says we have a 2.9% chance to get the 2 or 3 pick. Could you imagine the look on the other gm's face if that happens?

Can we fly you to Chicago tomorrow to represent the Celtics?

Need?  absolutely.  every team "needs" the second or third pick in stacked draft.  every team would use that player as either a starter or improving their depth next year.   having said that, the "need" for the C's isn't as dire and many other teams.

If I was Atlanta, I would be very thorough with my predraft process. If I determine say Doncic and Ayton are both going to be great, I'd play hard ball. In the end, say Doncic was the man, I'd take that deal. I would also try to get a few seconds out of the celtics too. At the end of the day, that franchise needs a big influx of talent.

It's possible that the Suns draft Doncic because of Kokoškov (their new coach). If something like that happens and we end up with Ayton, I'd be over the moon!

It would be quite exciting to land the #2 pick.

Not a need, but that could turn into a serious piece for the future or a tempting trade piece for Anthony Davis.

We'll just see what happens.  A really big bonus for the C's if it does end up at #2 or #3 though!

Yes!

This draft is filled with insanely talented big men and it would be a dream to get one of those on this team - e.g. Marvin Bagley, Wendell Carter, Bamba etc. (Ayton is probably not going to drop to #2 or #3).
Jack of all trades, master of none.

To echo what a bunch have already said, no, Boston doesn't need to land this pick - they're three wins from the Finals as one of the youngest teams in the league and with their two assumed stars watching from the bench. The only thing they need is to get healthy next year. Getting the pick would be an amazing luxury though, and more talent is always a good thing. Also wouldn't hurt to officially eliminate the possibility of next years' Kings pick going #1 and winding up with the Philly pick in the twenties somewhere.

If the question is would I rather have the 3rd pick this year or 2nd next year, I would take this year's.  Should be a able to get a big that can help us on the boards and in the paint.
