Hayward starting from the bench

After this series, i just can't find the reason why would any player from the duo Tatum/Brown be benched when Hayward returns. I know that some of you will say Tatum can be moved to 4, but I think that's not going to happen. He really found his body and his play at 3. He just perfecty fits to it. And you can't bench Brown as well.

Unless some trades happen, I expect:

Irving
Brown
Tatum
Horford
Baynes

They all started before Hayward got hurt and they will probably all start again next year.  Hayward is big and strong enough to guard 4's if Tatum isn't up to the task.

Haven’t the foggiest what CBS will do, but one option would be GH at the 4. But the main philosophy I think is going to be to force many matchup challenges for the opposition with  players so versatile that positions from 2-5 (or at lease 2-4) will be flexible and somewhat  interchangeable.

I would stick to the 5 that started in the opener.
We will stick to it once again when GH and KI can go.

I believe the Celtic plan is and should be:
1) Outwing the league to death.
2) Repeat that for the next 10-12 years.

There is no way Hayward comes off the bench. He is an outstanding two way player, a vet, and a max contract guy. The Celts started the season with Kyrie, Brown, Tatum, Horford, and Hayward as the starters. It’s hard to imagine it won’t be that again unless there is an injury. Baynes might not even be on the roster.

That's a GS east lineup.  Our worst offensive weapon? Horford?   Our worst passer?  Brown?  Offensive juggernaut but no slouch on defense either.

I'm in agreement with others. Even if there is a quick substitution every game at like the 8 minute mark, all players really deserve to be starters and it may cause problems if they aren't - not like major problems, but we want our best players to feel propped up by playing for Stevens, not ripped off.

The bigger surprises will be who comes off the bench? Will Baynes re-sign for $5M? Will Smart get a big offer from another team? Will an offer for Rozier be too good to pass up? It may not be the fireworks of the summer of 2017, but I will be interested to see who fills out our championship-level roster.

Why would we deviate from the starting lineup we had in the season opener? Hayward is way too good as a facilitator (a skill both Brown and Tatum aren't great at) to not be next to them.

Plus, that lineup is probably the second hardest in the whole league to defend, and every player is an average at worst player, besides maybe Kyrie.

I've been wondering whether Danny has pondered trading Hayward for a PF or a C given that he has become expendable (at least in my eyes) due to the development of both Brown and Tatum.

The league is changing.  We have to avoid thinking in terms of traditional roles.  Switching everything on defense is the trend these days, but requires versatile players who can guard multiple positions while not sacrificing offense.

I look at it this way:  If GS can play D.Green at "center", then I think the C's can play GH or JT at "PF".

Anyone know where Hayward is in his recovery?  He hasn't been on the bench for one game throughout the postseason.  At least Kyrie stays for the 1st half.  If we make it to the finals, I can't imagine Hayward is a no show.

He could start the season coming off the bench if he's not 100% it will be interesting to see. To me what will be more interesting is who stays and who goes between Smart and Rozier?

There is no word on how he's progressing. Ainge, however, said last week that he wouldn't return this season no matter what.
