I don't think we are 1 big away from being complete

If you look at the bench, we really don't have a formidable 2 way wing: Smart/Rozier/Semi/Morris/Baynes. Semi has to develop an offensive game

We have bigs and guards as backups. We could use a backup wing in case of injury to one of our main starting wings.  Maybe a vet free agent or the draft can help with it. We could also use a young wing to develop off the bench from our starters.

Always happy to upgrade, at any position. But when Hayward comes back next year we'll be adding an all-star wing who pushes Jay and Jay one step down the depth chart. I also expect Semi to take a step forward; he should be on his way to status as a solid 3 and D player. Put it this way. If one of Jay, Jay, or Gordon is injured, we still have two of those excellent players. If Al gets injured, the dropoff to Baynes or Theis is pretty steep.

Thought this was a "pep rally" type optimistic, tongue in cheek, thread.

Then I realised OP was serious.

Then I realised we can NEVER have too many wings.

Then I realised we could trade for another wing.

Then I thought about a Rozier, Smart, Irving deal for Kawhi, and we roll with Jabari B, Grayson Allen, and Larkin, as our primary ball handlers next year.

Then I realised we don't even really need Larkin.

Then I realised we should trade Theis, Morris, and Monroe for Evan Turner, and Aminu..

Then I sobered up.

What?

We have Hayward, Brown, Tatum, Morris, Semi at the wing. How many wings do you want to carry?

if you consider Morris a big, the only backup wing is semi who has almost no offensive game

Brown, Tatum, Morris, and Hayward are all wings. In any case, they're better wings than any backup we can get on the open market. Smart and Horford can also be wings in carefully curated situations. There's zero need to get a wing next season, pool your resources for a big so that we don't go into the season having 1.5 or so of them.

If we run back the same roster with full health then everything else becomes a luxury.  I really don't see a need for a backup wing.  A projected starting lineup of Irving, Brown, Hayward, Tatum, and Horford gives Brad unlimited rotation options when he goes to the bench.  Kyrie, Al, and Hayward are all capable of making their teammates better as the focal point of an offense.  Tatum and Jaylen will only continue to improve as decision makers.  Then we still have Smart and Rozier who are both capable of running our offensive sets.  Beyond that we would STILL have Morris to provide scoring punch.  The Celtics should be more than covered when it comes to athleticism, defensive versatility, shot creation, and ball distribution.  I also expect Semi to make some improvements from beyond arc.

I believe most people are looking for a big man because it feels like the final piece of the long term puzzle.  In a perfect world we find a two-way big man who can develop behind Horford for the next few years.

Tatum brown and Hayward aren't backups. They'll be starters as they were in the preseason

Not sure if you are looking for a wing or a swing. Are you looking for off-ball guards or rangy forwards?

The Cs have Brown, Hayward, Tatum, Morris and Semi as rangy forwards.

The Cs have Smart and Rozier (and Bird and Allen?) as off-ball guards with really good length.

On top of that, both Yabusele and Horford can get some time as rangy forwards.

The Cs have more quality wings that any team in the NBA. Seriously, name a team with more?

Who are you playing PF? Tatum? Yeah, that won't work out too well.

Tatum played 94 games starting at power forward,  got us the 2nd seed and eastern semi finals. I think it's worked out decently

Assume a wing means a SG, SF, or something in between.  We will have Brown, Tatum, and Hayward who are all clearly wings.  I view Morris and Ojeleye as bigs or at best "swings".  So really what this is saying is to upgrade on Nader as the fourth wing.  Yeah, you can't deny that is a need or a possible upgrade but I doubt it will be the highest priority.  You could argue for more depth or better depth at any position.

I think the bigger need is another starting big.  Morris is the closest we have to that (after Horford) but the rest, Monroe, Baynes, Theis, Ojeley, Yabusele represent significantly less talent than we have at the wing (quantity vs. quality).  Because of the versatility of Horford, we could add a PF or C but that second primary big in my opinion should be the top focus.
