That tweet is a little unfair to Irving and I think he makes a decent point. I think a lot of people just accept stuff as fact without actually doing research and understanding stuff. His earth is flat example is a little too demonstrably false to convincingly get across his point but the idea is that if you don't do your own research and try to motivate these things then you aren't being any more then the guys who just accepted that the earth was flat 400 years ago.

Now the problem is that we have satellites and fairly simple experiments you can do to prove the earth spins and is round. But his overall point isn't bad imo. Do your research and make sure you understand "why?" rather than just accepting these truths.
