So about that Kyrie knee

Danny Ainge says Kyrie Irving will have to manage his knee soreness for the rest of his career ahead of his presumptive return for the Boston Celtics against the Minnesota Timberwolves Thursday.

I've entered the alarmed category simply because his numbers have dipped once this became known. Not that he's been bad but how good would he be if he was actually fully healthy? Feels like the C's are about to go into the playoffs hoping for him to just gut it out like IT did last season. Will off-season surgery even help? The dude is only 25 but has missed plenty of games over the course of his seven seasons. It's going to make or break the rebuild so yeah I'm now worried. Hope this thread gets bumped later on for the exact opposite.

I don't know his pain or pain tolerance but having it forever and playing with it may not be that bad. I've had knee pain for 10 years, earlier it woke me up in at night when I'd toss and turn (and many doctors say I have a high pain tolerance for whatever that's worth). Anyway I'm a mogul skier that averages over 50 days a year (61 so far this year baby! ) and I plow through it at age 45, KI can do it!!

I'm not overly concerned about the knee yet.  The easiest comparison for knee soreness is Kobe Bryant.  Kobe began dealing with consistent soreness dating back to 2003 and he managed to last nearly a decade in peak form before his body broke down.  During the early years he played 40 MPG at VERY high usage. 

The Celtics and Kyrie are just being cautious more than anything else.  It's going to be difficult for us to move up or down in the standings.

This may be an opportunity for Tatum to develop a little more with some added opportunities/offensive responsibilities.

I'm not concerned at all. Knee soreness is fairly common for basketball players. If this were anyone other than your franchise player, they'd put some ice on it and go back out there. I feel like this is just an opportunity to cut Kyrie's minutes prior to the playoffs. He doesn't look hurt at all. If he has a serious knee injury and posting top 10 numbers, he might actually be the GOAT.

This year it may be very bad news.  Future seasons not so bad.  Although most could argue it way too early to jump ship, there needs to be a thorough evaluation by the franchise.  The evaluation should by no means be public; however, I'm fully expecting Ainge to manage this perfectly. The return of Hayward and the arrivals of Brown and Tatum will do wonders to extend Irving's shelf life.  If he needs to miss time early next season, we can afford to clean it because I think we can all agree the team needs to be 100% relatively going into next year's postseason.
