Danny Ainge says Kyrie Irving will have to manage his knee soreness for the rest of his career ahead of his presumptive return for the Boston Celtics against the Minnesota Timberwolves Thursday.

I've entered the alarmed category simply because his numbers have dipped once this became known. Not that he's been bad but how good would he be if he was actually fully healthy? Feels like the C's are about to go into the playoffs hoping for him to just gut it out like IT did last season. Will off-season surgery even help? The dude is only 25 but has missed plenty of games over the course of his seven seasons. It's going to make or break the rebuild so yeah I'm now worried. Hope this thread gets bumped later on for the exact opposite.

I knew someone would disagree on that lol I'm far from a chicken little but yeah if he has a terrible game in the playoffs I'm going to wonder how much of it is because of that knee.

Dayum, the Cavs slowly looking like highway robbers on that trade again.

Really?

Cus it still looks like the Celtics are winners by a pretty huge margin right now.

Toronto is so far from a crap team.

I think they are better than any of the Indiana or Chicago teams from the previous few years.

I also think Cle is still the favorite.

“Knee soreness for the rest of his career” doesn’t sound fun.

Especially for a 25 year old guy.

I'm kind of interested to know what the actual injury in his knee is.  I haven't heard much of anything, other than it needs to be cleaned up, which seems pretty vague.

A Cavs fan told me he still has a screw in it from the 2015 surgery that needs to be taken out.

No idea if that's legit

when they play GS they will be crap. plus, I think this is their peak and they likely fall off the face of the planet next yr.

honestly, if it's just a screw that's a pretty simple procedure from what I understand. I have screws in my foot and they said if it starts to bother me it's a simple outpatient procedure with no recovery time.

not sure if the knee issue is that or what but it doesn't seem so.

I don't think so either.  I have an option of removing a plate and screws in 6 months, but they're often just left in.  Apparently ~5% of people experience some skin/tendon discomfort and can turn into a larger issue.  Doesn't sound like that.  He was complaining about the knee last April too.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I agree with you, OP. This is something to be concerned about. I knew about him needing his knee cleaned up this summer, but being in pain for the rest of his career is not what you want to hear.

I sure hope this was an exaggeration from Ainge, but if not, a Kyrie for AD framework deal is something to consider...
