Scal is great with the X's and O's of the actual game, but he's not great with the roster management stuff. That's Mannix's territory.

Off topic but is Tommy off games now? Seems like Scal has taken the bulk of home game calls as of late and Tommy stays behind in the studio for pre/post game stuff.

Mike said tommy was not feeling well last night, but in any case Tommy has slowed down A LOT in recent years with health issues and rarely goes on road trips.  We all wish the best for Tommy.

Yea I know he's been off road trips for years now but I feel like over the last month or so he rarely does any games, I find it curious also since he's always in the studio for games. I have a feeling this is his last year. Sucks because hearing Tommy is a highlight for me while watching games. Has been since I first started watching the C's in the 80's.

Agree - I'm going to miss Tommy big time.  He's a treasure.

Scal's not Tommy but who else is there?  I think Scal's ok considering there's really no one else.  And God, please don't make me go thru another Donny Marshall.  Egads.

I do enjoy Scal breaking down plays but when it comes to roster shuffling, Mannix knows more than Scal.  Which is fine.  By the way, I like Mannix better than Abby.

.

Gorman to me is the best play by play guy in the business, i've watched many local telecasts on NBA league pass and I can safely say that he is the best. That being said I feel like the mix of Mike and ultimate homer color commentary is required for a Celtics broadcast, Scal is okay but I think i'd prefer Cedric to fill Tommy's shoes, I know it'd never happen but I think he's the closest we got right now.

It seemed to be some carryover from a scrap they had on one of the two road games last week. I forget exactly what Scal said, but Mannix seemed irritated that Scal had quoted Mannix from an off-air discussion that Mannix felt should have remained off-air. Scal quickly agreed and laughingly apologized when Mannix called him on it. The tension seems to have followed them back to Boston. It felt like it was simmering beneath the Evans/salary cap discussion.

Tonight they were arguing about whether or not Memphis should have traded Evans.

Scal seemed to think Memphis was correct not trading Evans because they wanted to resign him next year. and Mannix correctly noted that they would only have the mid-level exception available because they're over the cap and dont have his bird rights.

So Scal really had no idea of what he was talking about, as Memphis could use their MLE whether or not they already have Evans. And, as Mannix noted, they'll probably get outbid anyways.

Wish they had an Internet game-broadcast-feed featuring a Johnny Most imitator. Don' t know if I'd grow tired of it, but would surely be enjoyable entertainment for a while.

People watch Scal and Mannix with the sound on?

I keep hoping someone gives Scalabrine a coaching job somewhere.

yes to both! at least we don't have hubie brown, marv albert, reggie miller, mark jackson or any of those over inflated egos.  I just want Tommy back! please!

I wonder how Johnny would react to Cornbread's antics!

From memory this seems incorrect:

Mannix reported that Memphis didn’t want to trade Tyreke without getting a 1st in return and since they didn’t, they held on to him since they felt confident they could resign him.

Scal said it was a good move by DA to not trade for him since 1st round picks have longer contracts and he probably wouldn’t be able to retain Evans with all the other contract considerations (aka Tyreke would’ve been a 3month rental). That said, he was surprised at Memphis’ confidence to resign him since Tyreke was only signed to a 1-year

Mannix then said that Memphis could use their MLE.

Scal said he thinks Tyreke will be offered more than MLE.

I forget what Mike said but I remember Scal saying as well that the Memphis team, as currently constructed, probably isn’t going to be the Memphis team next year anyway. So they could clean house and then sign Tyreke to a contract bigger than MLE.

Didn’t notice any tension here. I think there was more tension during the Cleveland flip-flopping exchange. And Mannix calling out Scal with “how many more teams are you afraid to face in the 1st round?”

Scal is much better than Tommy who should retire and stick to the pre and post game

If you were listening,  Mannix mentioned Memphis relocating to Seattle, Scal said he heard that also and mannix joked about Scal checking his sources. It was funny

Abby chin should stay at nbc. Her Celtics sideline reporting is not good

Johnny would have enjoyed dissing LeBron James who'd have been the perfect Celtics villain for his broadcasts.
