I agree give him a shot. If he dies it's not like we haven't seen it before.

If he is in shape then sign him, zero risk and potential big reward
If he dies he dies, we all die, it's not like driving or flying won't got you killed

And there we have it...Celticsblog has reached a new low
The complete lack of empathy for the players is so mething I find disturbing in a Celtic fan. My guess is Csfan1984 and playdream weren't Celtics fans during the Bias and Lewis years and so don't know what its like to have someone you idolize as a Celtic just up and die.
Idolize come on now. Neither of those players were at that level to be idolized. Lewis wouldn't listen to C's doctors. Bias took drugs that caused his death. Bosh has taken a lot of time and has a ton of medical professionals helping him. If he dies now then it was probably meant to be.
Again showing me you most likely weren't a fan of the Celtics at the time of those deaths.
You weren't a fan to say I wasn't a fan....
Not questioning your fanhood. Questioning whether you were old enough to be a fan at the time and appreciate how those deaths effected Celtic fans at the time.
I watched Lewis. He was the lone bright spot for us when he passed but he wasn't a great player. He wasn't a guy to lead the team to a ring regardless without some serious upgrades. Bias I never saw live. I only know from watching highlights of him that he was skilled and more athletic than his peers. Their loss impact was more after the fact, once the losses piled up. People like to think if we had them it would all be different. Truth is with Lewis it would not have been. And with Bias it's in question.

I was a young kid when Reggie Lewis died. I was a huge Lewis fan, would watch him every game together with my dad. Seeing him die in his prime like that was one of the saddest memories of my younger years. He certainly was idolized by many Celtics fans during that era, and he seemed to be a great guy too.

His family suffered tremendously from his death, and it did not happen 'because he didn't listen to his doctors' as you suggest. It was a complicated situation where one doctor contradicted another. Lewis was not back playing or practicing with the Celtics when he collapsed and died, he was playing pickup ball with some friends. Not that different than the choices Bosh has to make imo, and it's not worth the risk for him or his family. Bosh has even made big money and won rings. Reggie hadn't even had the chance to do that.

So according to you, a player needs to be able to lead his team to a ring, otherwise their death shouldn't effect fans? Got it.

Your entire post meant nothing. It doesn't matter how good Lewis or Bias were going to be. Their deaths were just as tragic whether they were stars or role players.

It's so ignorant for posters to say that there is "no risk" in signing Bosh, and "if he dies, he dies". Any person should show a basic regard for human life, let alone a fan of a franchise with the history the Celtics have. It's disturbing knowing that you and playdream are Celtics fans and post here often.

I personally wouldn't sign him to a contract.  But it's his life, and his choice, if someone else wanted to sign him I wouldn't hold them responsible if the worst happened.

Any person should show a basic regard for human life

A major part of having respect for human life is allowing people to make informed choices for themselves.  Who are you to tell another human being what they should or shouldn't do with their own life?

It looks like you haven't read the thread. Go back and see what made me and several others upset.

I'm not sure what the rest of the thread has to do with the point I made.  It stands on it's own.

Are you saying we should tell other people what to do with their own life?

Lol ok. I haven't made any comments about telling people what to do with their life. I don't know where you got that idea from and why you directed it at me, but I haven't made any posts about that. Please read before you post.

What I have posted about in this thread is the lack of respect and regard for human life that posters have shown. That comes from when discussing Bosh potentially dying, responses included-

"If he is in shape then sign him, zero risk"
"If he dies, he dies"
"If he dies it's not like we've seen it before"
"I certainly won't sympathize with them when they die"
"If he dies now then it was probably meant to be"

So again, what I've posted about has nothing to do with telling people what to do with their lives.

Just listened to his interview with Bill Simmons. I don't think he's going to play again.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

Reggie Lewis was a great player!

So, basically, if a person wants to kill himself and you know him and you know he's accapable of doing that, you would never try to talk to him and tell him not to do that, because you are interfering in his life.

Nope, didn't say that at all.

Of course I would talk to someone who I thought was going to commit suicide, or take some other action that might result in their death. That's part of the process of informing them, whether it be with facts or opinions. But once that person has been informed, the decision is out of your hands.

Probably goes on for three years playing then retires without incident. Then everyone says we should have signed him..

Only if his health checks out.  Sending Nader back to the G league and picking up a veteran like Bosh could be one of those under the radar moves that pays off for us later.
