Have to admit the statement sounds a bit callous....but I take the same philosophy with regards to my mountain and road biking. I accept the risks. If I die in the process, that is okay with me. I imagine anyone who rides a motorcycle feels the same way.

As for Bosh signing with the Celtics I'm all for it providing he's in great shape and cleared to play by at least 3 independent doctors.

I'm torn.  On one hand I want him to get another chance to play if he truly is 100% healthy with no real worries of a set back.  It'd be a great story.  On the other hand, I just don't know if it's really worth the risk for him OR any team.  I get that he loves basketball and I respect him for it.  But he doesn't need to do it anymore.  Unless he was really stupid with his $$ he can retire and live a good life and spend as much time with his family as possible.  If and when he chooses to, come back as an announcer/analyst.

My thoughts were confirmed by the crowd reaction to the Jalen Brown fall in the T-pups game. 20,000 people, many well buzzed, and... silence.

 Chris Bosh is free to play all he wants in his driveway. If he drops dead there, so be it. I won't be in his yard watching.  And I don't want to watch, wondering if a physical play will result in severe injury, or wondering if he was afraid whenever he doesn't go for the block at the rim.

As cool as it would be for Kyrie and Bosh to team up to take down You-know-who...

I agree. I don't hear people saying "he'll probably die, but oh well it could be worth it". Different people assess risk differently. It's better to not misdiagnose volatile risk assessment as a lack of empathy for many reasons.

Many of us watch NFL football on a weekly basis. Player aren't dying, but they are getting severely hurt - 281 concussions this past season. History tells us many of these athletes will develop early onset dementia and later be found to have CTE.

Maybe it's a bit of hypocrisy on our part where we know some players will suffer long term brain damage and yet we still watch. On the other hand, in Chris Bosh's case. we are afraid of the possibility of instant harm. Like you mention nobody will see Bosh if he dies in his driveway--the same with NFL football players. We'll never witness the long term effects of some of these brutal hits. If football players developed dementia immediately after a hit, surely most of us wouldn't watch the game even if it were sanctioned.

I'm obviously not as heartless as some of you, because my heart sank last night when I saw Jaylen Brown hit the floor. I couldn't even look at any of those replays after the fact. I was more concerned about the rest of his life, and basketball was the furthest thing in my mind, when I saw him laying on the floor.

I remember watching the Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini vs Duk-koo Kim fight in 1982 with my family on live TV. The fight was brutal, and there was concern about Kim after the fight, where he was taken to the hospital. The next day, I found out Kim died from injuries suffered during the fight. My point is, we all want to see greatness, but not at the expense of someone losing their life in the process. Even though I was only 7 at the time, I was able to grasp that concept.
