Ainge didn't use the full DPE. So can he use the remaining to sign another player? I didn't think he could do that?

Someone please clarify.

He cannot.  I clarified earlier in this thread.

Wow. Solid pickup.

And Danny STILL managed to lowball him by only giving up $5 mill of the $8.4 we had to give. Way to not bid against ourselves as many teams would've done.

That’s what I said in the other thread last night. Danny may not be willing to go that high but was still nearly double what anyone else can offer. No need to triple it.

Very nice move for Ainge and Monroe. He’s gonna like it here. If we get Evans too, what midseason acquisitions that would be.

Nice pick up.  May be able to take CLE to 6 or 7 this year.

Boston is becoming the clear favorite to come out of the East. So much depth and versatility.

It's still money that the organization has to spend. They valued him at 5 mil, and this also leaves room for another trade for slightly higher incoming salary to what we would have outgoing (since many of the players the team would be trading are under short term, small sized contracts).

Ainge is a genius.

Lets try to flip either Larkin, Nader and 2018 1st, or Yabu and a couple 2nds for Tyreke.

Was it risky of the Ainge not to offer the full amount of the DPE? Other than saving money, does it benefit the cap or roster flexibility?

Wasn't the goal to use the full 8.4 and then be able to resign him to a 10-11 million dollar contract this off-season?

Excellent news - he should really help out the 2nd unit (but would also be a great starter next to Horford).

Interesting that they didn’t use the full DPE. As SL explained, we still have the ability to add salary - which is a very good thing - but we now don’t have an advantage over other teams if he REALLY works out for us. Being able to sign him to ~$10m was something no other teams over the cap could have done and we still would have had our MLE.

Either way, welcome aboard, Greg! I remember when we used to discuss trading Rondo for you and now you are a part of our team for nothing, but some spare cash.

If he can somehow get Evans....Boston is stacked on the bench
