So, what’s the scenario for a trade?
I'd think a team that might go for it is one that plans to make a run at Smart this summer. His best fit is on one of these younger teams that can't defend.  He can change the culture on a team so I think that's his value. I'm just not sure what that means in terms of what someone might pay him on the open market.

I do have a question though, if they deal Smart does the team that acquires him also get the right to match a contract offer from another team this summer?

If so, then if you're going to make a run at him anyway, you might has well take on the leverage of having the right to match any offer.  That's worth something in a trade.

I don't think Danny does anything to disrupt the mojo this season unless it involves a blockbuster trade.  Moving Marcus mid-season might cause some tension.  I would be concerned about Kyrie's reaction to a deal like that.  A sign and trade option is still available for Marcus at the end of the season.

It is an interesting thought but I think Danny will still move a key player if he thinks it sets up the team in the long run.  But I can't see anyone trading any youth of value for Smart or Rozier - best that could come back is a late-20s veteran.

Smart mentioned something about a Brink's truck in regards to his next contract. Not sure what that means.

Funny -- if Marcus actually said "they'll have to back up a Brink's Truck" I think most of us would be saying best of luck, see you later.   My feeling is that Smart is not too far from IT in terms of value (remember, Smart is 23 and IT is 28) over the course of the next 4-5 years (the likely length of their next contracts).   Yeah, IT is more valuable at the moment, but I wouldn't underestimate the potential of Smart's increasing importance to the team over the upcoming era.  I hope Danny is able to keep him.

That's why I believe it would need to be a blockbuster deal for an All-Star caliber player.  Moving Marcus for a better value contract and/or draft pick doesn't seem to be a likely scenario IMO.  One thing we know is that Danny will consider any and all options.

I think Smart's ceiling is Iggy, especially as he improves his offense. He plays well when he plays within himself offensively and under control. I think he is worth 16m right now, and that is why he will probably be moved at the trade deadline.

Igoudala is taller, longer, and more athletic today even though he's 10 years older.  He's a better shooter and a more versatile defender.  I just can't see Smart ever reaching that level.

If I'm trading one of Smart or Rozier, it's definitely smart for me.

Smart and Rozier playing great, I doubt Danny has any intention on trading either unless for a major upgrade in talent.  Smart a RFA, doubtful he will get an offer that we would not match, even if it meant using him as a trade asset thereafter.

Am I the only one who thinks that smart and rozier are getting too much exposure the last games? Brad gives them the ball too much and let's them shoot at will.. Brown and Tatum do not get many chances and free shots... Danny will not pay them the money they want.... and he always sells high
Trade is coming... both can't stay after this year

Smart has been getting that type of exposure all year long - the ranked something like 4th on the team in FGA and has been jacking up about 10 a game all season long.  Much to my dismay...just so happens that the past week or two he's actually started making those shots at a higher rate.

Rozier has recieved more minutes out of necessity.  Boston has had a lot of injuries - Brown being out has meant Smart needed to enter the stating five, and that left Rozier and Larkin as the only guys left who could really handle the backup guard spots.  Rozier is obviously going to get the majority of minutes over Larkin.  When Rozier got those minutes he simply played really, really well - and so after those guys returned from injury, Rozier kept getting the playing time that he well and truly earned.

I doubt there's any more to it then that.  I mean don't get me wrong - if some team threw some crazy offer at Ainge offering a legit superstar in return for Smart / Rozier, then I'm sure he'd do it.  But I very strongly doubt that he's out there actually shopping Rozier, he seems very much against the idea of trading him if past history is anything to go off.

I think it's just as likely (maybe even more so) that the extra run is a byproduct of the crazy December/early January schedule; also they have both played well lately so they should be playing more. If Boston can only keep one I hope it's Smart, his game is much harder to replicate.

Smart is not even close to Iggy as a player.

Iguodala in his prime was superior to Smart in literally every single aspect of the game - better defender, better passer, better rebounder, better scorer, better shooter, more athletic.  Maybe you could make somewhat of an argument for Smart's defence, but IMHO Iggy was a superior player on that end too.

Iguodala was the 76ers go-to guy on offensive for a number of seasons there, and he was a borderline all-star for years.  I don't think there is any chance that Smart will ever be that for a team.

Smart really is more like a Derek Fisher.  He's a defensive minded guard who has decent (but not great) PG skills who can occasionally have an impact on the offensive end and has a tendency to have big moments in the clutch.  I honestly find it hard to imagine Smart starting for many NBA teams given his major offensive limitations.

I do get that because of the schedule they play more.... I do not get how they get more shots than Brown and Tatum being inconsistent... primary task for pg is to create... they try to score.. and to be honest we had Thomas we have irving we need a pg with more creation as a backup..

What is Marcus Smart looking for in the way of a contract - years/money ? He stated that he and his agent offered a very reasonable request to Danny for an extension. What type of numbers have been mentioned ?

I very much want to keep him - Smart is the type of role player that you win titles with. Seems to me his biggest problem is that his coach is too afraid to make him stop taking bad shots. Smart's shot is a bit of a mystery because he looks to have very good form. Maybe he needs to spend less time in the weight room and allow some touch to develop.

btw - whoever mentioned seeking a trade for Ty Chandler has lost me. We do need interior help, but that guy must be 40 years old by now.

I just hope that whomever we have coming in for either Smart or Rozier - especially Smart - will make us better as a team.

Can someone name anyone out there that could replace what Smart gives us? Even Rozier?

Rozier AND Smart have been clutch for us in some games this season.

The back end of schedule will favor these two as the majority of league stops committing to defense and players pursue stats, teams tank and competitors rest players and take their foot off the gas on defense.
And these two are relentless on defense-

PGs are going to see a depressed market going forward... most teams simply don't need one... i don't see them getting over $14m per year.
