Am I the only one who thinks that smart and rozier are getting too much exposure the last games? Brad gives them the ball too much and let's them shoot at will.. Brown and Tatum do not get many chances and free shots... Danny will not pay them the money they want.... and he always sells high
Trade is coming... both can't stay after this year

Well the pending Smart free agency contract and emergence of improved play from Rozier, under rookie contract for another year, has to have Danny thinking.

My money would side with Danny getting set to load up for a run NEXT season, with a more experienced Tatum/Brown/Rozier supporting a healthy Irving/Hayward/Horford, complemented by a MLE, resigned DPE player, and (God be gracious) a top lotto pick from 2018.

But I wonder about getting a return on a Smart/Baynes for Ty Chandler and a second rounder or something that makes that work. Danny has looked to add veteran big man depth for title runs before.

As much as I hate to say it, if Danny is not going to resign Marcus then he will likely be traded.

I'm not sure that Smart has much value right now given his contract situation. But if they want to make a run this year in the playoffs, they have to do something to get some more reliable bench scoring on the roster.  So I don't doubt that Danny is looking to deal.

At some point they'll have to choose between Smart and Rozier I believe. Whether that's this season or not.....I'd be shocked if they dealt Rozier now.  He's been playing great and is still improving.

I think we will only keep one of them going forward.  I hope I am wrong about that but economic realities being what they are I don't see either of them getting more than a two year contract so we can resign Brown and Tatum when they come due

I keep predicting this, but I think we will have both Rozier and Smart in 2018-2019.

I think there is not enough money for Smart out there, and he is likely to either sign a Jae Crowder-type contract to stay with us, or he will sign the QO and become an UFA in 2019.

However, it is also likely that we lose both in the summer of 2019, especially if those guys have a championship pedigree at that point :):)

I think Smart's ceiling is Iggy, especially as he improves his offense. He plays well when he plays within himself offensively and under control. I think he is worth 16m right now, and that is why he will probably be moved at the trade deadline.

I'd keep Smart over Rozzier.

Rozzier's type is a lot easier to find than Smart.  Smart can truly play the point, good passer and guard 3 to 4 positions.  Yeah, he isn't the best shooter, but I think he is the best of the two

Rozier is expendable especially if the celtics are feeling lucky in the draft this year. Trae Young would probably be available from 3-5 and we could snipe him there.

That's Brad's coaching for you. No different than any other occasion.

I don't think Danny does anything to disrupt the mojo this season unless it involves a blockbuster trade.  Moving Marcus mid-season might cause some tension.  I would be concerned about Kyrie's reaction to a deal like that.  A sign and trade option is still available for Marcus at the end of the season.

In general, it’s not a good idea to bet against Danny making a trade, but I have a hard time seeing how or why he would move Smart this year.

Half of this is about the Cs: the team is much better than expected, and has a real chance to get to the finals. Smart has been a part of that run, and there isn’t someone who can easily take his place on the current roster.

The other half, maybe more important, is about who our trading partner would be. Marcus won’t get too much return as a part-year rental then restricted free agent, and the teams most likely to be interested in him are teams trying to contend this year. If you’re getting back peanuts, why lose a player you know, with proven value, and risk screwing up team DNA (see:Kendrick Perkins). The contenders who might want him are either teams we don’t want to strengthen or teams that can’t or don’t want to give us rotation players or high draft picks..

So, what’s the scenario for a trade?

Smart mentioned something about a Brink's truck in regards to his next contract. Not sure what that means.

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
Danny is always looking to trade but last year We kept our complete team together the whole year. We have an open slot right now and DPE so anything is possible. I think Smart will get an offer if Evan Turner can why not him. Yes there is less money But if OKC loses George I could see them signing Smart.

I can only imagine the offers Danny is getting for Rozier.

Heck even if we just cash him in for a 1st rounder, that's fine.  We still have Smart.
