Just thinking out loud after watching a few of Ayton's games.
* The kid is a really special talent and at just 19 years of age has an incredibly high ceiling.
* Great measurements (7'1" with a wingspan near 7'6") and solidly built frame.
* Ayton is probably a better fit for our team than Brown when considering our teams overall strengths and weaknesses.
* Really good passer for his size and has a nice little jumper. I do think he'll eventually be able to extend his range to 3pt territory.
* The league is in high demand for versatile wing players that can score, defend, and rotate to multiple positions defensively. That's clearly what Brown offers, so perhaps that could help net us a generational type talent like Ayton.
* We're pretty solid at the swing positions with Hayward, Tatum, Morris (for at least 1 more season), Smart (if you think he's more of a wing than a ball-handler), and Semi (if you actually believe in his potential - I do have my doubts).
* The 2018 draft is loaded with bigs up top, but if the pick fails to convey we'll be on the outside looking in. That said, the 2019 is loaded with wings, so even by trading away Brown we could recoup by grabbing a top wing with the Kings pick.
* With our own 2018 1st rd pick I see some guys that might be Ainge type guys - UM's Brown (aggressive, athletic, and has good size) and Allen (fiery, good shooter, and probably reminds Ainge of himself). This is also a good way to fill the loss of Brown.
* I do worry about Brown being phased out of the offense next season. With Hayward, Irving, Horford, and Tatum how much will he actually have the ball in his hands? Will he be reduced to strictly a 3 and D type guy? He's not the shooter Tatum is and doesn't seem that comfortable shooting 3's from spots other than the corner.
* By trading away Brown and drafting Ayton we would extend the rookie scale salary for 2 more seasons. That'll pay great dividends as it relates to luxury tax ramifications.
Again, just thinking out loud. It does require some prognostication in assessing fit, future draft choices, luxury tax, etc.
