The biggest news here is that Ainge has persistently targeted Davis to the point of Demps telling Davis there's been talks. Ainge wants Davis, and he hasn't been just kicking the tires to check Davis' value. Wonder if danny will continue to target AD or if he's moved on.

Its unfortunate that Davis looks at the IT situation in a bad light. Top 5 -10 players aren't shopped around in trades. AD should know this. IT isn't in the same level as AD... There would be no "loyalty lost" if we obtained Davis. Who exactly would we trade Davis for? There's arguably no one better
the other thing to consider about that IT deal is that can anyone really argue that picking up Kyrie wasn't the right move for the team?  Kyrie's been fantastic and most importantly, healthy all season.

only issue with the Kyrie trade was whether we should have included the Brooklyn pick, not whether we were getting the better player.  as you've mentioned, if we acquired AD, who would trade him for as an improvement (provided he stayed healthy and productive) -- there's really no one other than maybe Durant.  (I'd offer Lebron but Lebron's career should be winding up in the next few years whereas Davis should be around for another decade)

Anthony Davis has been my favorite player for a few years now. Injuries aren't a major concern but he's not the biggest guy though it's not like he's missed A LOT of time due to something significant. They're mostly nagging injuries and why risk making something worse by bringing him back before he's 100%. It's not like they're not a contender and he's your bread & butter.
And yeah, getting a big like him would pretty much close the book on trading him for another player unless the C's become a bottom feeder. Obviously, that wouldn't be the case with how our current team is constructed. And I think AD understands that as well.

Jaylen Brown/Marcus Smart/Marcus Morris/Aron Baynes/Lakers pick

for

Anthony Davis

It is a massive package but what it would likely take to land AD WITHOUT including Tatum (which is ultimately the goal).

This starting 5 can run with any in the NBA...

Irving
Hayward
Tatum
Davis
Horford

I wonder how well Horford and Davis would play together.  Both of the seem to play better as the 4 against traditional lineups, and the 5 in smaller lineups.  That’s why if we trade for Davis I’d rather Horford be a part of it, and we can give up lesser assets attached to him. Of course I think it would have to be a 3 team trade as I don’t see the Pelicans wanting Horford.

Why trade for him now? wait for his contract ends and get him for free or when he asked out and steal him like KI (Rozier, Baynes, laker/kings pick for Davis)

He is too glass for me to take it seriously though
Come one man.  The celts won't be having any kind of cap space for the foreseeable future.

next summer it will be a lot easier to financially fit Davis if the LAL pick conveys (since that is an approximate 5-6 million salary that you can include).  Davis is at 25.4 million for next season so you have to get around 20 million, which is basically Brown, Morris, LAL player, Rozier, and Yabu (if you need a bit more salary add Boston's 2018 1st).  Throw in Boston's 2019 1st and call it a day.  That forms a very thin team, but a clear title contender if not the favorite.  Fill in the bench with vet minimum players or rookies.

I don't think New Orleans makes any kind of move on AD until at least 2019 unless he says he wants out. By then the C's current assets should be even more valuable so NOLA's asking price will take a major dip. They should be trying to trade him now but they'll do what most small markets do hoping to make a run. They are so capped out they will be nothing but playoff fodder at best.

They don't actually have to be all that capped out though as they could trade Cousins and Davis and attach some bad contracts to them or just trade them and bottom out where the crap contracts and the need for cap space don't really matter.

I'm talking about their current team never winning anything.

I think they could actually pose some problems for certain teams.  Like I could totally see the Pelicans beat the Spurs in the playoffs.  I don't think it will happen, but that wouldn't be a surprise as they match up pretty well with the Spurs.

Anyone else reading between the lines and seeing him say he's now holding the pelicans accountable?

this is the first sign of itchy feet.

I want to win and I want to win here but if you guys can't bring good players and coaches around me to do that then you'll force me to leave.

All Ainge had to do was not blindside IT.  Imagine if a modicum of respect is the differenve between the Celts landing their ultimate prize? Ouchies.

To his credit, it sounds like Davis has a good head on his shoulders.  And he has all the leverage right now.

I’ve cooled on throwing everything on the table for AD. He’s a great player but worth gutting your team over? I’m not sure.

I don’t think I can give Tatum plus other assets. Brown and Lakers/Kings pick enough? How do we make the salaries work without including someone like Horford or Morris+other key players?

As for his comments about Boston and IT, one quick phone call from KG will fix that. Lot of similarities between Davis and Garnett. You win in Boston, you’re a legend. KG a legend, even IT will always be remembered here. And yes Danny is unafraid to trade fan favorites, but he usually sends them to good situations. KP went to OKC, Pierce and Garnett got a say in how that played out. And IT went to play with LeBron.

Fun to hear us mentioned in an AD article, but nothing to see here.

Gotta see how NOP plays out this year and what happens with DMC. He’s due a colossal contract that NOP may not be willing to pay if they get swept in first round (or miss playoffs altogether). Will be an interesting storyline next spring.

What respect? Did Ainge ever told IT he won't trade him?

Then he can take a paycut if he really wants to win, then i am sure Danny will give him a no-trade clause
