What is his wingspan or standing reach -a state secret!!!!
-Maybe he likes to that length to surprise other players

He is a throwback.
He blocks out and plays tough.
He also blocks shots with both hands.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Celtics got a steal in Theis. I thought he was just signed for a training camp body, so he has certainly become a pleasant surprise. Watching him, he just really knows how to play the game of basketball. He never tries to do too much, defends the pick and roll very well, always contests shot at the rim, and has shown glimpses of an outside game as well. Wont be surprised to see him as a solid bench guy in this league for years to come.

Dare i say Greg Stiemsma with more offensive polish?

Theis is who Greg Stiemsma wishes he was.
There is something about those Germans....

Speaking of Stiemsma, just yesterday I saw somebody wearing a #54 Celtics jersey from the front. I thought it must have been Rodney Rogers or a throw-back Ed Pinckney jersey - there was no way it could be Stiemsma...right? But, low and behold, the guy turned around and his name was plastered across the back.

Yes, somebody actually invested in (and is still wearing) a Greg Stiemsma jersey...crazy. Also, I should note that I now live in Orlando - this was not your typical New England/Boston fan wearing this thing around town. This was in a very public place, and, in Florida, he might have actually decided this as one of the 6-7 shirts to put in his suitcase and bring on vacation.

Also: the only way I would use Vanilla Ice to refer to someone is an insult.  Have more respect for my man Theis.

If that is the case, you remind me of Vanilla Ice, JK.

In his defense, there was a brief moment where he was projected by Tommy to be the next Bill Russell......

For all of the "next Draymond Green" talk I see every time any team signs an undersized PF, with Theis' ability to play tough defense, shoot from 3 point range, and make smart passes, he's kind of a Draymond-lite.

I'm on the bandwagon for this guy. Heck of a player. Solid fundamentals coupled with good size and reach. Much to like.

What's his contract situation?  Will we need to use our MLE next year to keep him?

Exactly what I was thinking

We have him locked up next year on a cheap contract. He'll become a restricted free agent in 2019.

Excellent.

He seems like a player that would get a lot of MLE offers as an unrestricted FA.

Actually I've been a little disappointed that Theis hasn't shot more from 3 with his solid Euro numbers..

He gets the minutes he deserves mostly but i see him as a very good player with Stevens as time goes on.   Love his defensive quickness, both side to side and shot blocking.  A very solid player, probably the reason who ainge kept him at put zizic in trade.
He is helping team immediately with room for improvement even at his current age.  A very solid under the radar pickup by Danny

Think of Greg in Stevens system.  He'd flourish!

I think they need to redo the song Ice Ice Baby to Theis Theis when he scores and play it.

That would be hilarious yet so cool!
