Tatum's 52% to me isn't so much about Tatum, but the reason a lot of people here like myself thought that Crowder, Olynk, etc. were over-valued. Brad Steven's Celtics have consistently had wide open 3point shots open, but we've almost always had subpar people taking them. That is, most NBA players could look like decent 3point shooters in this offense. I'm just happy to see someone else taking them (and making them more often) now.
Naah it's not the system, it's the player. Marcus Smart has been in this system how many years now and his 3pt% is still under 30%.
I am quite impressed with Tatum's 3 point shooting this year as a rookie. He has shown us all that him winning the team 3 point contest before the season started was no fluke.
It's quite a pleasant surprise because a lot of scouts were doubting his 3 point shot, simply because he shot mainly midrange in college.
Looks like Tatum has grown up a lot between ending his college career and starting his pro one.
That kind of growth rate, especially his PER at such a young age could correlate with the Celtics having a Superstar in the making on their hands. And I'm loving it!
And don't forget he has played well beyond his years as a defender for the Celtics as well. You expect most rookies to look a little lost defensively their rookie year, not Tatum, he has earned his minutes!
