"shooting 50 percent on 3-pointers with a true shooting percentage of 63.7. He's also much better on defense than most expected early on, with a defensive rating of 94.4 and two three-block games. Tatum's usage rate is much lower than other rookies on less competitive teams, but he has been able to capitalize on his opportunities."

He has a very nice shooting form so Im not surprised, but 50%? Pretty amazing stuff

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I never doubted his ability to extend his range.

I'm more surprised in how he was able to speed up his release and still keep it accurate.

I see him flirting with 50/40/90 splits in the future.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I want to see him continue to be aggressive with his offense. That will be the difference between him being a good player and a great player. He seems to have an intrinsic drive to want to be better, but I am not sure if he has that fire that [a less offensively talented, but more athletic] Jaylen Brown has. That will hopefully come with more experience.

And I hope Tatum does get the respect he deserves when it comes to talking about the best rookies. He would be lighting it up if he were on any of these other bottom of the barrel teams.

The fact that he is not pressing on offense is also helping.  The majority of his shots are good shots coming from the offense, not free lancing.

I have been oleasantly pleased with:
- his 3 pt shooting. It wasnt great in college, but he had a rep as a smooth shooter and his free throw percentage was good, and i kept reading that FT percentage was a better predictor anyway, so awesome to see that.
- rebounding decently for a rookie SF/possible small ball 4
- he’s no lebron, but he isnt a complete black hole, gets a few assists here and there. Glad to see with his rebounds as well he is not a 1 dimensional scorer.
- effort on defense
- fitting into a role on a winning team, which most highly picked rookies dont have to do because they go to lottery teams and get to dominate the ball.

Love this kid...   My only wish would be that he flushed it more - hate when I see them throw his lay ups into the stands. Other than that thhough - this kid is Gold..

This, absolutely. He’s got an array of moves and is learning when to deploy them. Unhurried but decisive. At least twice last night the upfaked the closeout, let the defender go by, and made a second love to freeze or go by the help. The behind he back in traffic was sick.

Cannot wait to see what he becomes. Peak PG (pre-injury)but a little rangier might be a comp.

Those guys have moves but it seems like they have become lazy on offense.  A lot of jumpshots nowadays.

Highlights from last night's game. The link will start at 1:35 which is  a Tatum drive where Westbrook sets up for the charge under the basket and Tatum just angles his body around Westbrook and finger rolls it in. It's beautiful. Not a rookie move, for sure.

I can't wait to see what this kid develops into when he's a grown man.
