Will Terry Roziers  performance make Marcus Smart  expendable next season in Danny 's eyes?  I hope Marcus doesn't price himself out of a Celltic roster spot.

I hope not but you never know with Danny Ainge.

I think its a definite possibility, especially if Smart is looking at north of $11-12 million per.

It’s of course possible.  At the same time, Rozier hits free agency only a year later, and if he keeps playing like this, he could price himself out of Boston as well, given that Kyrie hits free agency the same summer.

True, but giving Smart upwards of $17-20 million would put the Cs in the luxury tax next year, wouldn't it? Perhaps the team is more comfortable not being in the luxury tax next year and wouldn't mind going into it the year after for Rozier, who's potential looks to be better as a player with all around skills that Smart doesn't possess.

Giving Smart $10 million might put the team into the luxury tax.  That said, I’d push back that Rozier looks to be the player with more potential until he’s kept this up for a bit longer.  They’re the same age, and Smart still holds the better career eFG% and TS%, and remains the better defender.

Rozier is my binkie. Been calling it for a while: TR will allow DA to hold out on MS and see what the market looks like next summer and how MS develops this year.

We've just had too many picks work out to keep them all.

Holding out another year by not signing MS to big $ also holds off the dreaded repeater tax, so the long game is to stay out of the tax as long as possible.

I can't see how the Cs could not pay Smart. Basically, like him or not, giving him a big contract would be the only way to trade for another star for MANY years to come

I think Rozier can be potentially the much better offensive player because we have seen growth each year he has been in the league. Smart is the same player now as the player we drafted. I hend.seen little growth. But as you say, it all depends on if Rozier can keep up his play on that end.

That's what wrecks of franchises might do. We don't need to trade for a star when we have 3 max guys already, and Brown and Tatum looking like possible max players not too far down the line.

Makes no sense to pay big duckies to Smart, plus lux tax and all, just to have a trade chip.

At least we have Terry for next year too before the contract stuff starts.

Since we have the Gordonl Hayward injury and the slow start by Marcus Morris this year is a long shot to reach the conference championship let alone  the NBA finals.

That being said we have a one year window next year if we sign Smart next summer to compete for a championship with this group. After that we start getting too expensive and it will be time to break up the band .

Rozier was one of the reasons I had the Celtics in the finals this year.

Smart and Rozier enter the game at ten minutes. What team in the NBA has that? What NBA coach has a plan to deal with those guys? Back court destruction.

Rozier gets into the lane with the trees and harasses and steals the ball. He is fearless and doesn't get trophies because his numbers are all over the place.

Zingers gets a pass and thinks..."oh good, mismatch"...then he sees it's Rozier and bails.

Guy is no problem on switches cause his wingspan is crazy and he plays like he's going to a fire or he is on fire.   

Rozier wants it really badly. Hard not love this Celtic.

Like I always said the skills and talents are there and always have been, he just needed in opportunity to be given a consistent role and minutes. 

Every year we have seen him take his hand to a higher level when he called upon in the playoffs, in the biggest stage. He's just too talented and to hard working to not be good.

I was one of the people melting down, thought it was a terrible pick. Shows what I know.
