I just completed a round of interviews for a position I am hiring for. Of course you want to hear "team player" and get a sense for the person's capacity for collaboration, getting along with others and commitment to the organization. But you also want to hear about the individual's skills, their thirst first for learning, drive for betterment. Actually, if they can't speak fluidly about self and what they bring to the table, they have no chance.
Irving comes across as a unique thinker, surprisingly deep for a guy who questions the shape of Earth or the existence of dinosaurs. I am a little worried that his wacky beliefs are indicative of mental health issues, but maybe they just reflect a sense of humor and a playfully provocative personality. I think he'll have a very interesting time with what seems to be a.team with a high number of intellectually strong and curious players and coaches.
