He opened up that presser by saying he was thankful for the guys on the stage, and his thoughts and prayers went out to those in Houston, Charlottesville etc.

I thought he was pretty good and I was excited by a lot of what he said. I felt he addressed a few things

1. The recent tragedies, he put this first and foremost showing maturity.

2. He talked about the organization.

3. He explained himself, this is what kind of sounded selfish but it was talking about a guy who wants more growth and a change from what he was dealing with with the Cavs.

4. Talked about his teammates, fit, and goals. As well as legacy of C's and expectations.

A good press conference IMO. He did his best to voice his opinions and views.

  ::) IT was no different...

I know this may come as a shock but people who are alpha's who are really good at what they do tend to come off as conceited or narcissistic.

nice try though.

Lets wait a little while before we start criticizing a players attitude - like the real season and a few games are played?

I saw an intelligent young man, that was excited to be traded to the Celtic family. He mentioned the retired numbers in the rafters, the Celtics great past, and how he hoped to continue to learn from Stevens and his team.

I was thrilled that some of my concerns were put to rest about his so called attitude.

Larry Bird was very "selfish" and competitive

Did you ever doubt for one minute that Larry Bird's #1 priority was the team and winning ? Bird was obsessed with winning - his personal stats were meaningless.

Same thing goes for Cowens, Havlicek, Garnett, McHale, DJ, even Pierce once Garnett made him grow up. Others include Tim Duncan, Bill Walton in Portland and Boston, Olajuwon, Magic. As much as I despise both, even Jordan and Kobe were more concerned with team success than anything else.

Yeah you can hear those old stories where he'd ask the ballboy "what's the scoring record in this building?" And then go out and beat it.

Do we think it's coincidence that he scored 60 about a week after McHale scored 56?

What about the game where he decided to shoot left-handed to make it "more interesting" for himself?

What about when he called his teammates "sissies"?

What about the time he interrupted his coach drawing up an end-of-game play and said "give me the ball and get out of my way."

Suppose all those stories came out, the identical ones, but it was 2017, and they were about Kyrie Irving. What would we think?

Actually, I was pleasantly surprised how well spoken he sounded.

Also, you could tell how lucky he felt to be a Celtic.  You could tell, traded to the Cs caught him by surprise - in a good way.  And he feels extremely fortunate about it.

Good vibes from that interview.  Definitely.

Is he a ball-hug? yes.  Is that going to change? I hopes so.  There is only one way to win a Championship, and that is playing team ball.

Kyrie thinks he deserves to be in the elite players conversation - and frankly I think he should/could be.  We hope is the former.

Honestly why don't the moderators just lock this thread? It's just turned into people making jokes at the OP's expense. It's an embarrassment for all of us involved.

He did mention team alot and how no one person can put the team on their back.

Personally, think about it. In an age where players like KD want the easy way to a championship kyrie said he would rather lead the celtics and go through lebron rather than ride him to another finals. Thats a good attitude to have.

We will see if kyrie is ready to be that leader.

Let's just wait to see how his attitude is on the basketball court. It's hard to glean much about anyone at a Press Conference.

I agree. The kid got up and talked off the cuff for 20 minutes, and it's being dissected like the ****g Gettysburg Address.

Exactly.  Anyone with half a brain can say what the people want to hear.  Every time Dwight Howard has a press conference half of this blog is writing about how much he has changed and matured.

  • I drink and I know things
Kyrie Irving spent most of his microphone time at today's intro presser talking about HIS potential, HIS goals as a player, HIS desire to be in a situation conducive to HIS development as an elite player, how the trade request was not even about basketball but about HIS evolution and HIS own personal peace (whatever that is supposed to mean).

I have never liked this guy's vibe and I don't like it now. He sounds so focused on himself and  what the trade means for HIM. Where were the comments about "potential he saw in the team", "goals that the team could aspire to", "I want to fill whatever role Coach Stevens needs in order to get this team to a title", "Here are the ways I believe I can help this team win", heck, maybe even a comment about the opportunity to play for the greatest franchise in the NBA.

No - Irving just couldn't stop talking about HIMSELF.

Is Coach Stevens strong enough to require Irving to keep the ball moving on offense and not to dribble the shot clock away ? Is Coach Stevens strong enough to require this guy to play defense ? I have not seen much from Stevens to persuade me that he will stand up to a selfish player. He has had a hard enough time reigning in bad habits from players who care a great deal about team chemistry - Now, he has to deal with this headcase.

Something about this guy keeps reminding me of Sidney Wicks.

Yeah what's this guy gonna do next, tell us to back up the brinks truck for him? Should have kept that star pg we had last year who never talked about "me".    ::) ::) :o

Let's, you know, let him play 20-30 games before jumping to such conclusions. Rediculous thread. I predict Kyrie will blossom for the Celtics.
