The Cavs aren't slick. We aren't hearing anything because they have until Wednesday and may be listening or waiting for other teams to put up offers.

Surprise...no one is offering them more than what they're getting.

I don't think they can do that since they've technically already agreed to a deal with the Celtics.

There's no deal until the Cavs declare they're satisfied with the result of the medical examination. No amount of foot-stomping and yelling, "Keepsies!" will change that.

Yes, we know that but why make any announcements last week then? Why not void it? what's the hold up?

Deals are routinely announced before physicals are passed. Given the level of scrutiny these players are typically under, the physical is rarely an issue.

As for the holdup, see the first post nested in our conversation. I'd chalk it down to a rookie GM trying to bite off more than he can chew.

While there's a way around it regardless I do wonder if it's technically legal for the Cavs to discuss Kyrie deals with other teams right now. The deal hasn't been finalized but it has been announced, paperwork filed with the league, etc. Seems like a limbo area where the trade formally exists despite not being fully completed.

That said, I don't think the trade gets voided here and at most Boston will throw in a 2nd rounder (though I suspect they won't even need to do that).

I don't think fairweather was saying the situation is unprecedented, I think he was remarking on whether or not the Cavs are allowed to talk to other teams during this stretch where the trade has been agreed on but not finalized.

If the trade isn't official, it isn't official. This is why I said they are stalling to either get the Celtics to give up more or they're talking to other teams.

In the end they will not void the deal and I believe if they try to extend the deadline, Ainge will pull out. Then they can save face with their fans and say it wasn't their fault.

I don't see what's going to stop other teams from calling to say, "Hey, if you're not satisfied with IT's health, here's what we can offer".

Yeah there's an unofficial way to do it regardless of what the rules say, I was just wondering if it fell into the same sort of category as tampering. 

It can't have come up often but a 3rd team trying to scuttle a trade that's in the process of being finalized is probably at minimum highly frowned upon.
