I think it's either 4 or 5. We went through this with the KG knee drama. I'm not a huge fan of Celts doctors, but I have serious doubts the Cavs doctors were lied to and just found new stuff.

None of the above.

It's a significant injury and a big risk for IT as a player. That's never changed. He probably needs surgery (risky), but he was wise to try and avoid it.
I don't see any surprises here. When he tore the hip, I felt like he'd peaked for good and would have a massive rehab on his hands...

Didn't IT go to an independent doctor about his hip for an opinion as well?

I think he should have had the surgery back in May. Fix it once and for all. But if the Celtics doctors (who have been poor in the past) advised him to just rest and it is worse than expected...then what a mess

My choice would be "Both Celtics and Isaiah knew surgery was possible, but wanted to avoid it because IT would lose money and the Celtics would lose a trade chip/ really good player but now another team seems to think its necessary and the gamble may have backfired."

me as well. where is the option for "medicine is very complicated and it is quite normal for different doctors to have different opinions about an injury"?

I believe what happened is:

- IT has been playing with hip pain for a while (i.e. years)

- He suffered an acute hip trauma that required him to miss time in the playoffs.

- He and his doctors hoped rest would allow him to get back to the point where he could play by the beginning of the season, albeit with pain, avoiding surgery that would result in missing a big chunk of time ... this is where it was trending as of a few weeks ago.

- Cavs docs are less optimistic; they are paid to be skeptical about incoming players, and they think he will require surgery to reach a point where he can play again

- Furthermore, Cavs doctors are concerned about the likelihood of recurrent acute hip issues in the future which would result in more missed time
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

So that's kind of a combination of one and three, however I admit I hadn't considered IT himself being incompetent in his own medical decisions, especially with a contract year coming, but it definitely happens.

I would call the media "drama queens", not the Cavs. They make their living on this stuff.
The Cavs may want to take advantage of the hype by squeezing out another draft pick. It's about draft picks for them, anyways. IT is a rental.

Okay, sure, close enough. Thanks.  ;D
