I hated the trade initially and talked myself into it.  If it fell through I would be fine getting the Brooklyn pick back and Zizic.  IT will get surgery and miss the season in preparation for free agency, and Jae can be moved to any team in the NBA if he has an issue coming back to Boston.

Remember, Danny has said repeatedly that some of the best trades are the ones you don't make...

In the scenario you describe our starting lineup is

Smart - Brown - Hayward - Morris - Horford

The Celts win 40-45 games and lose in the first round.

Also they probably have a bottom 10 offense.

Basically, a very different season than we thought we'd get to watch.

Additionally ... rather than having an elite scorer running our offense for the next 5 years, we have ZERO idea when or how we're going to have a legit lead scoring option and playmaker again.

There's no way to spin this as a positive scenario if the trade gets voided.

Who cares ?

We weren't winning anything with this team yet anyway. Remember, we r planning for the future not for this year. Take back the Brooklyn pick and go on our merry way as we had already planned to do.

Cleveland is trying to rob us from our future. They want Tatum to. No way, to me, thats a deal breaker.

Danny, walk away from this trade. Pick up your Brooklyn pick, grab Tatum n walk into the future n forget this even happened.

Marvin Bagley III is awaiting us.

Eh.

Maybe you don't care. Maybe you were all about draft pick watching all the time.

But I think a lot of people enjoyed watching this team and were looking forward to how good they could be with Hayward and the other additions.

If you just wanted to watch DraftExpress clips though, this might not be had news for you.

I loved the trade all along hope it doesn't fall through. I'd be really bummed.

let them void the trade.  we overpaid when we thought IT would be ok for this season.  now that's he's got some health issues, the trade evens out a bit.    they can take the trade as is or pound sand as Roy said.

this year wouldn't accomplish much but no concerns about having to pay IT next offseason  so we should be sitting ok regarding the cap for another run at a good FA.  getting that Nets pick back wouldn't suck for next offseason either

Agreed. This trade actually looks fair now. Take it or leave it..

If IT is truly hurt as they say this trade should have never happened in the first place. It sucks but those are the concerns with investing in a player of his stature.

HATED the trade, but at this point, we've probably gone too far to turn back.

After initially voting that I loved the trade and hope it goes through, I have thought more about it and decided that I hope it gets vetoed and we just roll with whatever this coming season. Then let IT go in free agency. Crowder was butt hurt earlier when we signed Hayward and will get over this too. We keep our Brooklyn pick and Zizic. Rozier can play those minutes until IT gets back and then take over next year. We saw in the conference finals that we could play without IT. The bonus it puts an even greater wedge into the Cavs. I tell them we aren't giving them anything extra and if it happens it does, and if not then roll the other way.

I was ambivalent about the trade initially but I think it would be a disaster for both the Cavs and the Celtics if it were voided now. Because it's made longer term intentions from both front offices public. From the Celtics' point of view they would have to deal with 2 players who were kind of the "heart and soul" of our chip-on-the-shoulder team of the last couple of years. It's a professional business but people have emotions. Some serious fence mending would need to happen. This isn't just NBA2k with players with ratings, locker room chemistry and attitude have a big influence on success.

Plus if IT is injured and decides to have surgery and sit the year out to make sure he is healthy for FA then we're stuck with Rozier/Smart for the year. It's possible that Hayward picks up the scoring slack, but I doubt we would be a better team than we were last year. And if IT isn't given the max and leaves next year then we get nothing for him.

As for the Cavs, they would have the same issue, dealing with a disgruntled player who might end up sitting out training camp to force a trade. They probably won't get anywhere near as sweet a deal elsewhere as the Celtics gave them - 3 players plus a lottery pick. They would have no leverage anywhere else.

It's in both teams' interest now for the trade to go ahead. What it will come down to is what price Cleveland will put on IT's possible downtime (if any), and what Danny is willing to give up (if any). At some point those two points have to merge, but there's going to be a lot of gamesmanship on both sides to get there, which could risk torpedoing the deal for both parties. In fact I'm nearly certain that this is just a tactic by Altman to try and scare the Celtics into giving up more assets to add to what was a great deal for him already.

A couple of things that should be non-negotiable though - giving up the Laker pick (unless it's traded for the Brooklyn pick, which won't happen) and giving up either of Tatum or Brown. Those should be off the table, even if we have to torpedo the deal. Because those things are our future.

Ainge should NOT give the Cavaliers anything.

He should tell CLE to go kick rocks.

Lebron is leaving after this season (and this makes it seem more likely he is and CLE knows it), and they could cost themselves a chance at Bagley or Porter here. Fine by me.

I highly doubt any other team will give CLE close to the value that the C's did.

Yep.  If another team was giving close to the C's offer, Irving would have gone there instead of to Boston.  Unless the Celtics are convinced that IT will miss most/all of the season, and were trying to pull one on the Cavs, they should say "take it or leave it."

Yep, what was the Bucks offer btw? The rumored one. Does anyone know? Bragdon and someone else right?

Brogdon, Middleton, and a first. Would've been a really interesting package for Cleveland in the present, but it still doesn't come close to the future impact of our deal.

Does anyone believe, given IT's anger towards Cs that he msy have asked the Cavs to press the Celtics? He was pretty angry at Danny and the Cs given all he did for the franchise.

That would only reduce the likelihood of the trade getting done.  What evidence is there that he's angry? I haven't heard anything from him yet.

TP! That's definitely an interesting package, but yeah not close to Boston's. Don't see their first rounder being a lottery pick while Nets Pick has decent shot of being Top 5.
