If they don't want IT that's great!
Due to money reasons we'd basically need to send Marcus Smart and Theis, right?
Redo trade...
Now you have IT AND Irving AND Hayward AND Horford AND Tatum AND Jaylen AND the Lakers pick.
Big 5 or 6
You sit with IT and mend fences. You let him know it's a business and we love him. He probably won't get the max for obvious reasons but that doesn't mean he can't still make a ton of money. Prove us wrong. Focus on nothing but health. Try to make it back in time for the playoffs. Point out there are guys in this league that have major injury histories that make tons of money (looking at you Jrue Holiday).
Point out he can still make a ton of money on a great team that loves him. We can offer him more than anyone.
How much would you love to get an IT boost late in the year? How much would fans love that?
You announce the day he's coming back. Fans go insane for him. He'd love it. We'd love it.
Ainge needs to talk all year about how much he loves that IT is back and how hard it was to move him. Stevens does it too. Players talk about it. Fans talk about it. Kyrie talks about it.
The Cavs immediately tank without IT. We get to see how incredibly awesome defense is vs offense watching Marcus Smart go up against Kyrie and IT for the next decade.
After the season give IT a substantial 3 or 4 year contract (assuming he hasn't lost much athleticism).
Boom. Easy trips to the finals for years.
