If they don't want IT that's great!

Due to money reasons we'd basically need to send Marcus Smart and Theis, right?

Redo trade...

Now you have IT AND Irving AND Hayward AND Horford AND Tatum AND Jaylen AND the Lakers pick.

Big 5 or 6

You sit with IT and mend fences. You let him know it's a business and we love him. He probably won't get the max for obvious reasons but that doesn't mean he can't still make a ton of money. Prove us wrong. Focus on nothing but health. Try to make it back in time for the playoffs.  Point out there are guys in this league that have major injury histories that make tons of money (looking at you Jrue Holiday).

Point out he can still make a ton of money on a great team that loves him. We can offer him more than anyone.

How much would you love to get an IT boost late in the year? How much would fans love that?

You announce the day he's coming back. Fans go insane for him. He'd love it. We'd love it.

Ainge needs to talk all year about how much he loves that IT is back and how hard it was to move him. Stevens does it too. Players talk about it. Fans talk about it. Kyrie talks about it.

The Cavs immediately tank without IT. We get to see how incredibly awesome defense is vs offense watching Marcus Smart go up against Kyrie and IT for the next decade.

After the season give IT a substantial 3 or 4 year contract (assuming he hasn't lost much athleticism).

Boom. Easy trips to the finals for years.

Easy

I'm not buying the idea that IT would just sit in a cave and be mad the rest of his life. That doesn't pay well or lead to wins.

He supposedly loves basketball and winning and Boston. Let's see it. Because obviously the fans and team love him.

Ainge doesn't love him. Ainge is like Belichick. He doesn't love anyone. That isn't his job.

Belichick is going to cut Tom Brady some day. It will happen. Tom knows this. Doesn't mean he's gonna go through life mad or not doing his best

What on earth makes you think IT and Kyrie can co-exist in the same back court?

You think Thomas is going to all of a sudden be okay with going back to a bench role?

That will never work. The damage is done.

IT has every opportunity to make it back in time for the finals and have huge moments in the playoffs and make a ton of money.

He knows that. It's a crisitunity for him too

So your theory is if this deal gets voided the most realistic thing for IT is that he is going to want to, and should, go off and sulk like a hermit in a cave.

Meanwhile we throw up a white flag and say "We're screwed!"

You think it will work sorta like that?

I'm telling you I don't want that. Those two would make up the worst defensive back court pairing in the history of basketball, in any league, in any universe. It would not work.

And as I said, Thomas isn't going to accept a bench role unless he is so hurt he'll never be the same player again, thus not worth keeping.

Further crisitunity points.....teach the Cavs (and league) not to mess with us. Take back Kyrie. Have fun with Kyrie Cavs.

I fully expect of this trade gets voided Ainge will trade Thomas somewhere else. The damage has been done.

It will be nice to have that Brooklyn pick back though.   I won't be complaining about that.

Question for all of you....who do you think would have an easier time rehabbing their relationship? IT and the Celtics or Kyrie and the Cavs?

Exactly.  Ainge has every single ounce of the leverage here.

What do you suppose you can get for a very banged up IT? Carmelo Anthony?
