I think most of us are shocked by this trade, or for me personally the inclusion of Danny's sacred Brooklyn pick. This is what I don't understand.
Why do you overpay for Kyrie, who I believe is better than IT, but only slightly. And pass on Jimmy Butler who could have been had for much less and who in my opinion is better than Kyrie?
I just don't understand the overpay right now. Kyrie doesn't put us past Golden State, he might not even put us past Cleveland.. and he can walk in two years. No different than Butler, really no different then gambling on giving up scraps for one year of PG13.
The thought behind not trading for Butler was to build for our future because he doesn't move the needle enough right now. How does this trade move the needle that much more to justify losing a potential #1 lottery pick?
Ainge should have sat tight, kept the pick, dangled it at the deadline or at the end of the year for a disgruntled superstar that fills a bigger position of need, and if one isn't available you draft and continue to build for the future while still being competitive. Hell, the dynamic between Kyrie and Lebron could have potentially been so cancerous by the all star break we might have been able to get him for just IT and Crowder.
It just makes no sense.
