Also I think Ainge probably loves DSJ.  I think if the Celtics weren't that high in the lotto they would have taken him or traded up to take him or something if they could.  He's the classic Ainge type, especially in him having a down year in college plus an injury but when he came into college he was maybe the best prospect. 

Ainge loves those guys seems to me.  Doesn't care about college situations.

I don't think it's an unpopular opinion at all. There were plenty of draft sites and analysts that reported that Smith looked like the best player in the draft if he were to reach his potential and escape the injury bug that's been following him throughout his career. His athleticism is off the charts and his upside on both sides of the ball is outstanding. I can't blame you for being excited about him.

It's too much of a stretch at 3, though because his game is highly dependent on his athleticism and his injury history is very real. Tatum is a nice player and fits a need for this team's future especially if he can play the PF spot.

He has only had that 1 acl tear back in hs....

I would have done some trade to get the 9th pick if I knew he would fall there. Even if he does not turn out to be a star, he still will be an exciting player in his first few seasons and create a lot of trade value based on that.

He will be better than Fultz. The Knicks are the team that you should be talking to. He will never be a 10 player though. That is a stretch. Tatum will be remembered as the best player in the draft. DJS will have a much shorter but still highly productive career.

Love DSJ's game. I thought he was the 2nd best player in the draft. When there was talk of trading for a 2nd top 10 pick, I assumed it was to get DSJ.

On draft day there was some talk of Danny trying to move back into the lotto for another pick.  But I think it was to offer in a deal for George or Porzingis.  But then the Butler trade happened.   And the Wolves traded their assets for JB.

If that move up had worked out, we probably right now would have 1 of DSJ, George, or Porzingis.  I don't think DA wanted to give up #3 for Porzingis because he had that earmarked for Tatum.  But #7 or later he would have moved the pick or if it had fallen through, drafted someone like DSJ.
