I don't post a lot on this forum and celtics are my team forever, but I needed to say this. I've been obsessed with the draft  since I was a young kid and while I liked Fultz and Tatum which I think will both be very good. The player I saw " IT" in most was DSJ I really wished we could of just taken him  regardless of need he will be the best player from this draft. I know it will be unpopular opinion and Tatum looks great, but DSJ is barring injury, going to be a top ten player in the league.

The Celtics worked him out before the draft. Danny said he wished he could somehow,
get him.  Obviously he couldn't and they went with Tatum, who doesn't look to shabby.

I think they picked the right kid at #3, do you think they should've taken Smith?

I mean that's a bit of a reach, he was projected to go after Issac.

I don't think it's an unpopular opinion at all. There were plenty of draft sites and analysts that reported that Smith looked like the best player in the draft if he were to reach his potential and escape the injury bug that's been following him throughout his career. His athleticism is off the charts and his upside on both sides of the ball is outstanding. I can't blame you for being excited about him.

It's too much of a stretch at 3, though because his game is highly dependent on his athleticism and his injury history is very real. Tatum is a nice player and fits a need for this team's future especially if he can play the PF spot.

Yep.  Hilarious Knicks passed for another lesser point guard.

Was very impressed watching him play yesterday vs. Phoenix. Attacked Josh Jackson repeatedly, blew by him. 

He reminds me of a cross between IT and Russell Westbrook. The announcers kept referring to a pre-injury Derek Rose, but I see more of Russell Westbrook.  Kid is going to be a really good NBA player.

Just disappointed that Mark Cuban got him. He is so obnoxious.

I have been very high on him.  Would have taken him about 4-5th.

I lived in Raleigh and got to see him play and was familiar with the team then.  The biggest thing is the rest of the team was very bad and the coach was awful.  He had it tough but even still was very impressive.  He makes big plays and I like how he is playing with a chip on his shoulder.  He can be a special player.  The potential is why I would have taken him 4-5th.

It happens every year that some guys get elevated based on a single college season (Lonzo, Fox) while a guy consistently ranked higher throughout high school relatively slips and then proves to be the better player. I think both Lonzo and Fox will be fine nba players, but they don't have the same potential as DSJ.

Even as a Ball hater he has high potential still and Fox has very high potential I think.  He is lightning quick and I was very impressed watching him as well, how he comes of screens and can pull up in the midrange.  He really does remind me of Wall.

That's why this was a great draft.  They all have high potential.

To me the thing with DSJ is he was right in the discussion after Fultz and then Tatum in my rankings.

We should have NO regrets in taking Tatum. DSJ is good but we didn't need him.

Tatum is going to be special. Stevens is licking his chops thinking about all the different ways to use Tatum.

Ainge got this one right and I think we struck gold.

Also I think Ainge probably loves DSJ.  I think if the Celtics weren't that high in the lotto they would have taken him or traded up to take him or something if they could.  He's the classic Ainge type, especially in him having a down year in college plus an injury but when he came into college he was maybe the best prospect. 

Ainge loves those guys seems to me.  Doesn't care about college situations.

I'm sorry, but I just don't see the it factor. I watched a lot of NC state games (good friend goes there,) and I would have these moments where my jaw was on the floor. And then my rational brain starts going. To me, assuming he doesn't get hurt, and continues to makes strides on defense, he seems like his ceiling is Bledsoe.

I think his defense won't be at Bledsoe's level because he doesn't have the same huge +length that Bledsoe does. But that is a great ceiling for someone like DSJ.

Top 10 player? No. Great PG in the era of PGs? Surely.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
He has as much upside as anyone in this draft that's for sure.

I'm still happy with Tatum at this point.
