If for some reason IT4 was not ready to start the year

Who is your starting 5?

Smart
Hayward
Crowder
Morris
Horford

That's mine too, if IT isn't ready to go at the start of the season.

Thomas
Smart
Hayward
Morris
Horford

Crowder
Brown
Tatum
Rozier
Theis
Zizic
Yabusele
Ojeleye

But if they develop early, Brown and Tatum could wind up starting at SG and PF, and that's the only scenario I see where we really challenge the Cavs, the early development scenario.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Hayward will start at the two, Morris at the four.  Pretty simple.

Brown not nearly ready to start at all.

He started for Avery and did really well for a while there. I wouldn't say he's 'not ready to start at all', especially with another offseason under his belt.

Why are we assuming that Morris is starting?

same here.

As the roster stands now, I probably feel more comfortable saying Jaylen will be a starter than Morris.

Can you add a starting line up that doesn't include Morris in it?

We didn't start Olynyk and he was better across the board than Morris last season:

Olynyk 60.3 TS% 35.4 3PT% 8.4 REB PER36 3.5 AST PER36 15.9 PTS PER36 15.3 PER 4.1 WS
Morris 50.8 TS% 33.1 3PT% 5.1 REB PER36 2.2 AST PER36 15.5 PTS PER36 12.4 PER 3.9 WS

Morris was a net negative last year. I'm hoping Brad can keep him under 20 mpg next season.

P.S. Stan Van on playing Morris at power forward last season: "I don't want to be spending Marcus with a lot of minutes at the 4. I don't."

Smart as well.  I'm hoping Smart starts myself.

Our best lineup will be IT/Smart/Hayward/Crowder/Horford.

I'd probably start Jaylen for Smart so that the 2nd unit has a reliable ball handler, but Smart will play starter minutes off the bench.

I don't at all agree that Morris is our starter - Crowder is clearly a better player than him, the only reason to start Morris would be an aversion to going small early in the game.

This and pray that Crowder can stretch defenses well enough at the 4 to make up for Smart's near league worst 3PM/3PA. Smart's the only guy on the roster that can consistently cross match with IT now that Bradley is gone. Crowder is going to get banged up playing back at the 4. It's not ideal, but it gets our five best players on the floor and keeps Marcus out of the starting line up - a must.

Personally, I like starting Jaylen over Smart (I hate having to specify Marcus' now), because it allows IT to play with the ball in his hands, but it comes down to how you think IT is best utilized at the beginning of the game. If Smart starts, he should be the primary ball-handler. If Brown does, IT should.

Assuming Oly could maintain that level of production in a bigger role.   Minutes go up.  Roles change.  Defensive focus changes.   Per36 is an inaccurate way to project an increased role.   Too many variables change.

With stats its more important to consider how it happens, rather than what happens.

Morris can play big minutes and has had larger number of high level performances.   Much better player.

5'7, 5'9, 5'10"  does it really matter?  He still is going to get abused on d, posted up routinely for easy buckets, and be a great scorer on offense (as long as his body / athleticism holds up).  We get a lot of points from IT but he presents a lot of problems on d for us.
How many point guards were posting him up in previous years?  Does not happen all that often.  And if opposing PG's are going to be posting him up, should opposing SG's or SF's have been posting him up all the time too?  Did not happen much either.
How many NBA players post up any more?

The spanish guy from the Knicks?

He is one of the worst defenders in the NBA. Unlikely will ever be a starting center in NBA because of his lack of defensive effort and lack of fire in general.
