  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Bradley is gone. It sucks but it was going to happen with the expiring deal.
So what's our starting 5?

IT
Brown
Hayward
Morris
Horford

Or

IT
Smart
Hayward
Morris
Horford

Or
IT
Hayward
Crowder
Morris
Horford?

Or something else?
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I like IT, Brown, Hayward, Morris, and Horford with Rozier, Smart, Jae, Tatum, and Zizic off the bench.

That's a much, much bigger and more athletic lineup than last year.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

I think we may not be done making moves but it'd be logical to move Smart to starter, he can take the best guard/wing and IT and Hayward flanking him makes his offensive deficiencies less damaging.  He's also "next in line" for whatever that's worth.

I think if we go that route that we'll stagger our substitutions so he can split backup ballhandling duty with Rozier though. I think Brad likes him in that role.

Actually, I think it might be opening night:

Smart
IT
Hayward
Morris
Horford

with Brown, Tatum, Crowder, Rozier, Zizic and someone on the MLE coming off the bench. It's often been said that IT could play either SG or PG.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

I think there's still a move or two to be made. I still think someone moves for a starting big. I like Morris off the bench. As it stands I'd run either:

IT/Rozier
Brown/Smart
Hayward/Crowder
Morris/Tatum
Horford/Zizic

Or

IT/Rozier
Hayward/Smart
Crowder/Brown
Morris/Tatum
Horford/Zizic

I like that we now have length at the 2 slot in either scenario. We still need that big man somehow though.

Why are we assuming that Morris is starting?

For now

Horford
Morris
Hayward
Smart
IT4

Theis
Crowder
Brown
Smart
Rozier

Celtics will prob sign another vet to come off the bench. I dont think Tatum will receive much minute early in the season

IT
Hayward
Crowder
Morris
Horford

Smart and Crozier are the key ball handlers off the bench. Brown and Tatum the key swing-wing off the bench.

Aside from Zizic and I do not know if we have bench bigs.

Clearly there are still a couple of deals down the road

He's like the only guy qualified to play starter minutes at 4 right now.

I agree though, I think we'll still look to add a proper big, we're awfully low on them right now. That guy might be the one to start.

As much as Brad loves playing small, he almost always insists on starting two traditional bigs. I honestly think there's a better chance we start whoever we get for the RMLE over Morris.

Guys...Smart has ro start. Who is going to bail out IT4. Cover opposing pgs now that AB has been traded?

Smart at the 2 is a good match with IT at point. Marcus is a very good and willing passer. He can take the tough defensive assignments too. He doesn't score like Avery, but he's a much better passer, and has better size, and he can post up in the paint. He's kind of everything IT needs next to him being a scoring PG.

I like Hayward at the 2 if he can defend the position. That would make Crowder one happy camper for sure.

IMO Brown isn't ready to be a starting shooting guard. I'm not convinced he's a shooting guard at all as of yet.

I liked AB, but this makes the most sense if we were going to loose him next year anyway.

I just flashed back to those Zeller/Lee starting lineups and shuddered. But I agree. I think we'll look for a more conventional 4 to start who just probably won't get a ton of minutes.

Hayward will start at the two, Morris at the four.  Pretty simple.

Brown not nearly ready to start at all.
