Allows them to use their MLE without worrying about extra luxury tax.

The paycut he took is basically the MLE.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
It's really generous of him to take such a discount, but it really shouldn't even be allowed. The 2nd best player in the NBA in his prime should be forced to make the max.

I don't disagree with you at all, because of the problems that could create if more players on more "super" teams did the same thing...but "forcing" them is something that the owners would never get in contract with the Players Union on the issue.

If somebody wants to leave money on the table, they are free to do so...from those who accept vet minimum to ring chase to the best in the game.

Adam Silver i thought the supermax was to prevent situations like this??

If they don't win it all again this season, Durant might be bitter at Curry's $200mm contract.  Livingston took a discount too.

Watch him take less money again in 2 years time to keep Klay around. Aside from injuries, the only way they may lose this year is if Melo and Wade get bought out and sign min deals with Lebron. What a league.

Ooo, 9 million less. I hope his family can survive.

He'd only play for the Cs if his team blew a 3-1 lead to them and then the Celtics won the title.

Durant takes a huge discount to help the Warriors cap situation.
Meanwhile Lebron takes the max while a few more pieces of his hair clog the team's showers

Why should he?  His teammate just signed for $200mm, and Durant is arguably the better player.  Notice he has a player option, if GSW don't win, he might leave.
