Why? Are we trading crowder or AB?

We just drafted a guy who plays the same role.

Because we want someone on the team other than IT that can actually shoot.

Again, presumably we drafted Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum for a reason.

Why spend money on Gallo? He won't give the Celts a chance against Cleveland.

Because Jaylen and Jayson need a couple of more years before they are ready to be full time starters and we want to compete now. We would also lose our cap space if we don't use it.

Also, Galinari would definitely help against Cleveland. We desperately needed at least someone other that IT who could hit a shot, we didn't have that.

Gallo is a perfect fit on this team - a Kelly Olynyk who can actually drive and kick, has mid range game, and has some athleticism.

Injuries are certainly a problem but he is worth $20M for a 1+1.

I agree. He's certainly an upgrade from KO.

This would be a depressing Plan D, for sure. As much as I've said we need to use the cap space now before it vanishes next year, there is still one way that it could be useful in the interim, by saving it for a mid-season trade where the other team doesn't have to take back a contract? Is that potential use worth releasing and renouncing all the players that keeping the space would require? Or are we stuck with Plan D as the only way to get any value out of the space should we whiff on Hayward and Millsap?

I would have thought so, but the stats don't bear that out, and in fact are pretty close per 36 minutes.  Kelly is more turnover prone but is a better rebounder per 36 minutes (8.2 vs. 5.4 per game).  They are nearly identical 3-pt shooters.

Gallinari is ASKING for a "Chandler Parsons" type contract....

http://www.sportingnews.com/nba/news/nba-free-agency-danilo-gallinari-denver-nuggets-chandler-parsons-clippers-rockets-celtics/q5c56fyjsqj1hwiutoon5y92

Unless his price actually came down, I'm not that high on getting him anymore as a "fallback option".

Also, a 4 year deal for him is risky, and he will probably get one from some team. Pass.

Somebody please explain to me how team defense against a good team would work with Thomas, Gallo, and Horford sharing the floor.

Gallo is worse than Melo, and I don't think anybody here is excited at the thought of Melo as a fall-back option.

Plus, at most he'll be available for about 60 games.  Cross your fingers that he's available in the ECF, if the Celts are able to get there.

I am pretty sure Gallo does nothing to help the glaring weaknesses of interior presence, defensive rebounding, and paint defense.

I like Gallo, I just don't think he really moves the needle, and with that in mind I'd rather play Tatum and Jaylen more.

Rather just develop Brown and Tatum and Keep Crowders cheap contract for a later trade.

I would cry myself to sleepfo every night for 2 years of Danny offered $20m to that Galinari.  Thats a joke of an overpay.

Sad thing is its the type of thing Ainge woukd probaby do...

Won't offer anything in trades, yet somehow always gaily to radically overpay in free agency.  Bewilders me.

Except for the part where he isn't really a PF? :P

Wouldn't it be embarrassing if we don't get Hayward and then the Heat or Jazz sign Gallinari?

Depends. If it's a large 4 year deal, no.

I thought he was ticketed for the Clippers. Big thing is who is going to wait for the Celtics? Waiting on Hayward is slowing down things

I hope he goes there. Galo/Blake/Jordan isn't a bad front court. Beverly is decent. Add a shooter and they will be ok.

I just want that pick to convey. If they eek into the playoffs that could be a nice pick in the 15-18 range.
