Landing "KG" doesn't happen often at all, simply because there have been so few guys like KG in the league, ever.

People are rationalizing those trades just because we missed out. Not all of it is Ainge's fault, mind you. But it's mind numbing to read all these posters chirping about how these perennial allstars aren't really that good. Or that we "dodged a bullet" by not acquiring them. Please.

I would honestly rate PG, Butler and DMC higher than Hayward or Horford and yet these are the players these same people support acquiring? GH and Big Al are great players but neither are perennial allstars nor all-defense players. Id wager a lineup of Butler-PG-DMC would fare better than IT-Hayward-Horford. Not saying it's possible to have achieved that line up. But I'm just pointing out how ridiculous the notions are of "they're not really all that good".

Yeah, it's hard to believe that this is the same guy who traded the #5 pick for an old Ray Allen.

By the way, it isn't the same guy.

This is probably an important point.

Danny has a ring now. He's proven himself. And what he may have learned from building that team is he made a bold move and all he got was a single title plus another Finals run.

I think Danny wants to build a team that will have a chance to win multiple titles and really secure his legacy. That seems to be informing his decisions now.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

I love Avery Bradley and Crowder but if they ever become an allstar, I'll eat my hat.

I think people what people mean is that they are glad they are not giving up value for a one year rental or someone who'll their cap space and probably won't be enough to get past the cavs.

Hayward Horford and Thomas cost a combined 1 first round pick (late 20s) and cap space.

Cousins costs you Brown + significant assets
Butler costs you probably Brown + Smart/Crowder + significant assets
Hard to tell what George costs you, but it appears to be ~3 firsts Smart and Crowder

Don't forget Demarcus Cousins.

3 stars traded in half a season.

None of these players are within a mile of what KG was as a player.  That is who Danny is looking for.

You realize that without first trading the #5 pick for Ray Allen, KG doesn't agree to come to Boston?
