-39 total players drafted
-22 no longer in the NBA
-Not one has made an all star team

Keep trying Danny! Hoard those assets.. Even a blind squirrel gets a nut sometimes.

Stupid thread.

Why aren't we counting Rajon Rondo? He made 4 all star teams.

Al Jefferson made an all-NBA team which is more exclusive than an all-star team.

How many of those picks have been lottery picks that Ainge hasn't traded?

I'm all for certain Ainge criticisms that I feel are valid, but there's this thing called "context" that you're missing here.

He has had some real misses...JR Giddens, Pruitt, Bill walker, Sully, Fab Melo, still think Rozier was a stretch at 16...

Smart was solid...KO ok...Jury still out on Brown

Yeah,  he's not  proven to be anything special drafting players.  But hasn't had alot of top 10 chances though.

It could certainly turn out that waiting on all these drafts will prove fruitless and a big mistake.   i mean,  some of it's just bad luck in not having a franchise guy available when you finally get the first pick.

The context is simple to me, 57% of the players are no longer in the league, majority of the list have been duds. I'd take a one year rental of George in hopes he loves Boston then have more stiffs added to that list.
Who knows what he's offered or if he's offered anything at all. Funny thing is it always seems like that after some big name gets traded elsewhere Ainge comes out and basically says the media made all the Celtics interest up and that there were no discussions for whomever.
Just look at what OKC gave up, really leads me to believe Ainge lowballed yet again, or didn't even make an offer to begin with.

If you're going to do this, you have to adjust for players who were drafted for/by other teams in designed trades.  So

Perk
Jefferson
Allen
Gomes
Rondo
Powe
Davis
Bradley
Smart
Rozier

That group consists of players who have played up to, or beyond, their spot in their particular drafts, giving him a hit percent of a bit over 25%.  Then you add in the picks that were moved in order to form the "big 3", and it doesn't look quite as bad as you make it out.  It also doesn't count a guy like Green, who stunk as a member of the team when he was first drafted, but has hung around the league for a long time.  It's certainly not a great record, so far, but they haven't been drafting in great spots, so that has to be taken into account.  These last two drafts (and next year, obviously) will go a long way to clarifying Ainge's drafting ability.

When people are free to do as they please, they usually imitate each other.

He's actually been very good drafter in the 2nd round.

Big baby: NBA champion /6th man runner up
Etwaun Moore: just signed 4 year $50 mill contract
Semih: playing for good euro team, he prefers europe. Was serviceable in nba
Abdel nader: d league rookie of year

There's a few I'm forgetting about that have been good.

1 All-Star
2 All-NBA
3 All-Defensive Teams

All those spots at mid to late 1st rounders. But yeah, Danny can't draft ::)

I don't think Sully was a miss. He was productive during his stint here. That's all you could ask for a guy that slid in the first round.

He's overly fixated on athletic, skill-lacking guards with a competitive fire.  That should be painfully obvious by now.

yup

"The 20-year-old Croatian 7-footer just completed an excellent season for Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul and is expected to join the Celtics next year. He finished second to top 2018 prospect Luka Doncic for the Euroleague Rising Star award."

What's funny is we might end up with doncic next year too lol.

His pre Big 3 drafting record is great. His during Big 3 draft record is ok, mostly because he drafted Bradley, and Davis contibuted at least. His post Big 3 draft record is pretty bad, though the jury is still out on 2016 and 2017.

Besides Bradley, this current team is built on Stevens, trades, and free agent signings. Olynyk and Smart are the only draftees that are doing anything, and they're role players.

I won't say he's been bad the past 4-5 years or so but he also hasn't been as excellent as you might expect an organization that gets a lot of positive press for doing things "the right way" to be. They haven't had that huge home run of a pick like a Gobert, Giannis, Draymond, or Jokic. And they haven't had really solid picks like a Gary Harris, Clint Capela, or Khris Middleton. Basically, he's drafted two role players in Olynyk and Smart. No stars and no starters on a good team.
