How can they do this trade? Aren't OKC capped??

Here's an idea, the west can assemble two all star teams and Lebron will just play one half for each team.

I wonder why the Pacers wouldn't wait to see what happened with Hayward first?

Almost like a spite trade.

Why should they? To repeatedly get offered Crowder and a non-lottery pick?

Really? Because there would be more pressure on Ainge to get the superteam completed if Hayward had signed here first.
The cap plan for Boston was to sign Hayward first, then trade for PG.
Why not wait 2 days? OKC isn't renegging a deal where they dump Oladipo's 21 million contract and all they have to include is Sabonis.

Horrible trade for the Pacers.

Looks like Ainge may have outsmarted himself by waiting too long.

The Pacers may have wanted to deal George before free agency. Or maybe ainge didn't get the commitment from George he was looking for.

Either way, Just Bradley and Crowder would have been a better deal for the Pacers. Though we don't know if Bradley was in the deal. ESPN says Crowder and another player plus lesser picks.

I don't understand how the narrative here is ainge is an idiot when it should be Indy are idiots.. AB, Crowder, smart/rozier is a heck of a lot better return than oladipo and sabonis. Nvm the plethora of non Brooklyn picks we could have added..

I'm sorry but I'm with ainge here. No point in selling the whole farm for a 1 year rental. It's gotten to the point now where teams would rather take a lesser haul than to make a deal with ainge, which makes zero sense

The idiot is me.
I saw Amick's tweet on George deal to OKC.
In my haste to post a thread on it, I titled it Griffin instead of George, even though the tweet source was for George.
My apologies for the mixup. I just sold a property a couple of hours ago, and was a bit out of whack with this news.

all good buddy. TP for the effort :)

Celtics offer on draft night for Paul George, per league source, was 3 first-round picks (not the Nets pick next year or the Lakers/Kings pick) and two starters (Crowder being one).

Indy chose the lesser offer. No faulting Danny for Pritchard's stupidity.

I'm making sure this is on every page of this thread.

I understand that its very possible that George is headed to LA after next season, I get that. I understand that Ainge values his players and assets, I get that. I understand that the Warriors and Cleveland are probably in the Finals for the next 2-3 years barring injuries, I get that.

What I don't get is Ainge's need to continue to push contending down the road. He could have had a big four and been in the Finals next year. I truly believe that IT/Hayward/George/Horford with great young fill in parts and maybe a couple of returning vets like Jerebko and Amir could have been a Finals team.

I hope Ainge likes all his young assets and for the love of all things Green I hope he hits on 4 stars with Brown, Tatum, Brooklyn 2018, and Lakers 2018. If he doesn't I hope he turns them into Anthony Davis. Otherwise, his job should be in jeopardy. Probably means the ax doesn't fall for at least 4-5 years but if this whole youth thing doesn't pan out...he should be gone.

I am ****g 52 years old. I can't wait another decade for a title, Danny. Trade the freaking teenagers for stars.

I wonder why the Pacers wouldn't wait to see what happened with Hayward first?

Almost like a spite trade.

I really believe this is a spite trade, and it's $84 million worth of spite.

I don't understand why they couldn't wait for two more weeks before the Hayward thing settles before they go back to this deal. Bradley, Crowder, Yabusele and two 1st (even without the Nets and LAL/SAC pick) is MUCH BETTER than what they got.

Pritchard simply did this out of spite. There's no other reason as to why he'd do such a dumb and expensive trade.

Or, he thought Oladipo and Sabonis were better than a role player and a couple of late firsts.

He surely know that Victor Oladipo is owed EIGHTY FOUR MILLION DOLLARS for 4 more years.

$84 million.

Role players and a couple of late first is better than a guy who is not even close to being an All-Star and is owed that much money. Anybody in the league, including the not so good ones, would know that.

Pritchard did it anyway.

This is throwing it at Ainge's face. I'm going to use the Bill Maher "I don't know it for a fact, I just know it's true" rule here. No other logical explanation that I know exist to explain the fact that you're trading your star, a top 20 player, for a young player who didn't show a ton and a fringe starter who's owed so much money, other than trading it just to show other teams that they won't get him.

That's remarkable.

Sure but I seriously give George like a 20% chance of resigning there and I feel like that's almost generous.

I think 20% is very generous.

lol it is.  I can't say it isn't a good move regardless for them but yeah I think in the end like some others are saying this was on the Pacers.  If they want to do this move oh well.

Westbrook couldn't win with KG, Ibaka, and Harden, so it's doubtful he wins with PG13, Adams, and Kanter. That team isn't close.

PG-13 will come to the same conclusion that KD did, and he will be gone.

This trade might manage to ruin both the Pacers AND the Thunder.

How is this trade going to ruin the Thunder? They're getting cap space by getting out of a bad contract and if Westbrook leaves next year anyway, the Thunder would have to start over. It's a gamble with really little downside  for OKC.

"Oh, no, we might lose two stars instead of one, but have a much better cap situation in doing so."

3 first round picks and 2 starters for a rental? Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. you Indiana.

Honestly an IT/Horford/PG13/Hayward lineup would be unlikely to win a championship, and would be absurdly expensive to keep together next year.

Aside from the 2004 Pistons, what was the last team to win an NBA championship without a top-10 player?

We might have just dodged a major bullet.

I think you could make the case that Paul George is a top 10 player

Maybe.

But since the 1980's every title team was led by someone better than him except for maybe the 2004 Pistons.

If he's our best player it's highly unlikely we win a championship.

This is the cold, hard reality of the NBA.

The vast majority of championship teams are led by all-time great players like LeBron, MJ, Russell, Duncan, Kobe, Bird, Kareem, Shaq, Hakeem etc.

So were those guys all time greats before they won a championship? Or did they win a championship, and we're then considered all-time greats?

Where does Wade land? Kawhi? Paul Pierce?

How about up and coming/current ringless stars like Giannis? Anthony Davis? Harden? Westbrook?

We weren't the only player for PG. No one was offering him much.

No owner is going to let a GM make a bad trade out of spite lol.
