If the Paul George thing didn't go through, and Thibodeau wanted to change the face of his team, with smart and Brown, real tough guy Defenders, to go with Towns and Butler.

I personally think it's kind of nuts not to make this trade. Not even being a big Wiggins fan it's too much upside to pass up.

 We still have.

 Horford Zizic
 Tatum
 Wiggins Crowder
 Hayward Bradley
 Thomas Rozier

 And he's 21 years old.

If you don't know what we should do with Wiggins.
Start him at power forward. He's better than Amir.

That is insane. Brown might end up better than Wiggins next year never mind giving up Smart and a high lottery pick. On no planet is Wiggins a PF. He is an awful rebounder, rail thin, and can't defend either 3s or 4s.

And you know what really make this crazy? Wiggins might be the worst defensive player in the league. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-nba-haters-ball/.

The scary thing about this data is that Wiggins actually puts out effort to defend. It is not that he is lazy at it. He is just horrible defending. The stats show that being guarded by Wiggins is the same as being guarded by no one and getting an open look. People make jokes about not being able to guard a chair but with Wiggins it is true. So you would put a lineup out there that features IT and Wiggins at the same time. Good god.

His offense isn't something to write home about either. He attempted the 2nd most shots in the league last year and missed the 2nd most shots in the league. He is a volume scorer on a bad team and that would be a terrible fit on the Celtics. In Brown you have a player 2 years younger who already shows more promise in numerous areas.

I wouldn't give up Brown for Wiggins straight up.

They are trying to improve their team and make the playoffs, so they will not be trading Wiggins.

I think the deal would keep them at a similar level next season and make them much better in the future.  Agree with a lot of what DooVoo said, although Wiggins will still be better than Brown next year.

Lose-lose.  They just got Butler who is better than Brown or Smart.

You'd need to work out the salaries but I could see Wiggins for Avery Bradley. MN needs outside shooting, Thibs loves Avery's defense.

That would be a scary defensive team.

Sorry KGLL - that is way too much to give up. At this point in their careers, Brown may actually have more overall potential than Wiggins (nevermind Smart and LAL/Sac pick in the deal). That doesn't mean he will be necessarily as good, but in terms of impact on winning, my bet is on Jaylen.

Why?

Brown may ultimately be better than Wiggins.

Good heavens, no. When did Wiggins become so valuable? Why are people so desperate for a trade, any trade?

Brown and a potential top 5 pick for Wiggins is nuts. I'd have to think long and hard about giving up one of those, no way both.

Wiggins really isn't a winning player right now. Someone with empty stats. That said I still like his upside. If we are trading for him I'm keeping the Lakers pick and Brown.  Maybe Crowder plus other smaller assets (Memphis/Clippers picks).

Somone brought up to me CJ McCollum which is interesting.  Maybe Portland thinks he is too similar to Lilliard and want to shake things up.

saw the title and knew it was another KGLL special: horrible trade idea apparently made just for the sake of making it.

horrible overpay for Wiggins.  He's a good player but seems to lack that drive or killer instinct that both Brown and Smart have.  He's the better player right now but I'm not so sure in 2 years we wouldn't be looking at this as a royally boneheaded move.

Brown is going to be a better player than Wiggins. He's also more cost controlled.
Adding the Lakers pick on top is ludicrous. I don't think that pick or the last Brooklyn pick is going anywhere

Wiggins just isn't very good. He scores but does nothing else to help his team win--doesn't defend, doesn't rebound, doesn't pass. He doesn't have "upside"--these aren't things that players suddenly figure out in their 4th year in the league. He's a RFA next year and the Kings or the Hornets will probably give him a max offer, so you're trading for either a one year rental or an albatross contract.
