Awesome. Makes a good trade that much better.

What part makes this better?

If SAC get's the #1 pick, we get the PHI 1st rounder.  We could get a mid-first rounder if Philly makes the playoffs in 2 yrs (likely, since they almost made it this year before Embiid went down)

The trade is actually WORSE!!!

Yeah, the worst case scenario is #1 for #3 and a non-lottery pick in two years. That's scary, although odds are against it.

The best part of this is that it ties up all of the 18 Lakers, 19 Phil., and 19 Sac. none of which can be used in trade to upgrade Phil. roster at least until after the lottery is decided next year!  Those picks would have been competition for the C's in trades and can't be used by Phil. to upgrade their roster.

That is a nice little bonus indeed. I doubt Philly will be a deep lotto team by that stage, but a chance is still a chance.

If Embiid doesn't pan out you are talking about really really young guys like Simmons and Fultz for the time being. If they are successfully able to get more veterans that changes things. However, it seems like they are trying to get someone like KCP to grow along with their youth.
I was assuming the best for Embiid. I also believe that Fultz, Simmons and Saric will gel really nicely.

But hopefully they collapse  ;)

I think Simmons and Saric will gel about as nicely as Okafor and Noel did. The other three should be fine, though. It still all hinges on Embiid and his health really.

Also, Simmons and Fultz defensively could have some issues (while they should be great together on offense).

Very good, underrated point.

INDEED!!  TP!

However, why do people think this is good??

If SAC gets #1 pick, we get PHI's pick.  Now if PHI makes the playoffs or close to it that will be a late lottery or mid-first round.

HOW IS THIS GOOD???

It should have been unprotected!!

Celtics just announced that if the Lakers pick doesn't convey next year (isn't 2-5) we get the BETTER of the Kings and Sixers picks in 2019.

Most people expect the Sixers to be improved in two years but this gives us another set of Ping-Pong chances if they're still a lottery team. Nice added wrinkle to the overall package.
link?

Saw it on CB Twitter, citing a team announcement: https://twitter.com/celticsblog/status/876855322752765953

Looks like comments on the tweet are saying if either pick gets #1 we get the lesser of the two, which actually brings it right back down for me  :(

Hooray, more incompetence.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

I'm basically just posting stuff as it comes across the CB Twitter, but thanks!

Good and undernoted point, the deal effectively ties Philly's hands at trades involving any of the 3 picks until the 2018 lottery (assuming the Lakers are in it). I don't think it makes too much difference to them but they won't be able to wheel and deal with the picks even though 2 of the 3 will ultimately be theirs.

Why do you think that? I know Saric didn't exactly light it up from deep, but his ability to stretch the floor (alongside Embiid and Fultz) should allow Simmons to operate like a 6'10" Rondo.

Also, this will be 2 years into Fultz and Simmons playing together, so they will have gotten used to each other by then.
