Celtics workout Tatum, still trying to get Ball and Jackson to workout for team

I'm falling more and more in love with the potential Tatum pick. The article said he really impressed with his shot-making and footwork today. The kid is going to end up a mixture of Pierce, Anthony, and Parker, though I think he's significantly more athletic than all three, possibly even longer with more potential for putting on size, too.

Here's a nice write-up on Tatum and his humble beginnings. I love him even more now that I know he's from my neck of the woods. He's going to be AB awesome fit next to Jaylen on the wings/forward spots.

I disagree on the athleticism point.

Carmelo Anthony was insane athletically when he was in his prime.  One of the fastest first steps you'll ever see.

Also, Jabari Parker is a freak athlete at his weight too.  Definitely more explosive and quick twitch.

I would definitely say he's more athletic than Pierce.

This is Tatum's first time working out in Boston, but his second time working out for the Celtics. The last several Celtics picks worked out for us two times. Further evidence that Tatum will be the pick.

I wanted Fultz so bad but if this was the best for the team id be happy with Tatum

So did I, but if Tatum turns into an all star and the Lakers pick gets us Bamba or Ayton who are currently ranked third and fourth, this will be great trade.  Off course, Tatum may turn to be only an avera player and the other pick could turn into a mid round pick from Sacramento.  It's a big gamble by Ainge.

I would definitely say he's more athletic than Pierce.

A year ago, Tatum was a stick figure.  This past season, he was noticeably thicker including in the legs.  If he continues to build muscle, is it reasonable to expect his speed, quickness, and jumping ability to improve?  I tend to think so, but I'm not sure.

Really starting to warm to the Tatum pick.  I have a feeling Danny's gonna try to get another pick before it's all said and done an Tatum goes at 4 to us via pick + place swap.  Which would be fine.  Rumor was that Phoenix may send the Miami pick for Jackson whom would be a better pick for Phoenix.

He is a good athlete not a great one.  Look at these:

Despite Tatum's size and fluidity, he's not an exceptionally explosive athlete by NBA standards, with an average first step that was further slowed down by a high and loose dribble. So as one can see he is not the superb athlete you portray and these are multiple sources.  He is very skilled and an above athlete but not elite athlete.  If we did not like Fultz explosion it does not bode well for Tatum.

I never said he was a "superb athlete" like you're saying. I said he's a better athlete than Pierce, Melo, and Parker, all of which are true. They didn't exactly set the bar high, but I stand by my statement that Tatum looks quite a bit more athletic than all three of them. Granted, I might be selling younger Melo short a bit, since I don't quite remember him as well as Pierce and now Parker.

It's a gamble, yes but I think some risk is necessary to get to where you want to go.  Depending on what happens with another Ainge move in the next 72 hours, the Celtics could have up to 4 lottery picks between this draft and the next one.  The odds of getting a very good or even great big man are quite high.  Take the gamble, Danny.  Trading those picks doesn't get you past GS (or Cle) in the near term.

Tatum is not as good a passer or has a high motor, never mind the defensive advantage.


That being said I'm warming to Tatum but then again I'd take Jackson. Maybe we finally fix a player's shot for once.
