We trade our #3 pick and Zeller and Mickey and Jackson to Orlando for the #6 pick (take Isaac) and Vucevic.

I'd rather just take one of Jackson Tatum Ball

But then again I also would have rather just taken Fultz so what do I know?

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
So we are trading down in the draft AND choosing Vucevic over Hayward/Griffin? Yikes.

Or we could just take Isaac and go absolutely nowhere near Vucevic. Ever.

Not sure that people are even picking up on this. Vucevic's salary makes a max contract virtually impossible without totally mangling our team.

People on this blog simply do NOT understand what a QUALITY big Vucevic is!!!  Secondly, we will also be trading for Paul George.  I will got to war with a starting lineup of IT, AB, PG, Al, and Big V all day long!!!  We will still have Smart, Rozier (maybe), Zizic, Jaylen, perhaps our #3 pick, Nader, etc. off the bench!!

There is NO yikes about my logic!!!  I would much rather pay Big V $12.3 and $12.7 million the next two THAN pay Griffin $30 million per year at least the next two years and watch him play 50 games per year IF we are LUCKY!!!!

His rebounding and post scoring is pretty good, but he's also quite a soft defender, especially for someone his size.

He's definitely not good enough to hurt our ability to acquire a top quality FA though.

He's a plus rebounder, but that's really it. He posted 49.8% TS last year. That's just abysmal efficiency. For context, Marcus Smart checked in at 48.6%. He's a terrible scorer, terrible defender, and pretty good rebounder. I think I'll take a 20% shot at Gordon Hayward over that.

I actually like quite like Vucevic and would not be opposed to bringing him to Boston if and only if all other plans fall through

Horford could play power forward with Vucevic at center - it could work nicely.  Horford's defense makes up somewhat for Vucevic's lack of it, while Vucevic could make up for Horford's lack of rebounding and his fading post game.  Big V is also has a solid midrange jumper, so he can help to stretch the floor.  At $12M/2 he'd give us a solid short term solution up front.

BUT

Vucevic isn't getting us past Golden State, and he's not making us a legit contender...and I actually really like Tatum's upside and think he's the type of player who could be a cornerstone for this team moving forward.  I am not comfortable giving him up for Vucevic.  If we could get George/Butler AND Vucevic without giving up Tatum then I'd consider it as a last resort move.

Otherwise, to be honest, I would rather try to sign Ibaka to $12M - $15M (if possible) and trade for George rather then give up a bright prospect like Tatum for Vucevic.

No interest in Vucevic. I do not think he is a good fit for this roster. Al Horford is the center here. I would only be willing to move Al to PF full time for a top flight center which Vucevic is not. Do not need Vucevic as a backup center either with Zizic coming over.

I do not like Horford (PF) and Vucevic (C) as a big man pairing defensively. They are too slow. Horford was not comfortable defending PFs last season and Vucevic is a below average defender at the center position. They would be a liability together. They would drag the rest of the team down because of their inability to play effective team defense together.

Vucevic needs more help (quickness, team defense) from his PF than Horford can provide. As does Horford from his C (team defense) than Vucevic can provide. They are a poor pairing defensively.
