Diminishing a player only because we won't draft him isn't very nice

If he was so bad at the Sixers workout then maybe they back out of the trade. Then what?
the sixers agreed to the trade after the workout

I would rather see players shoot at game speed in game conditions.   Shooting around like in the video does not fulfill either of these criteria.
If he can't make it in a workout there is no way he make it in the NBA

For once I like the youtube comment section  ;D
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Game film, for sure.

But have you seen extensive game film? I honestly haven't. I don't really have the time or the patience to watch a full game of Washington Huskies getting beat by some crappy college team. That was honestly my first reaction to Fultz.. how someone THAT good that no one could stop talking about finished 9-22. Sorry, but a consensus #1 draft pick that has a ceiling of Jesus Christ
and floor of Dwyane Wade should win at least half their games.

What we see are the absolute best highlights condensed into a 5 minute loop played over and over again until it's drilled into our mind that Markelle Fultz isn't capable of missing a 3 pointer.

Most of his highlights are PnR, shoot a 3. Big deal. He's had a few where he's split the PnR double and made it to the rim like Isaiah Thomas, but Thomas does that in the big boy league, against playoff teams, on every single play.

You're drafting a kid. Most of the stuff you see will evolve/change. I'd rather draft the best athletic specimen that already has most of the tools needed. That's why I liked Fultz and don't think he sucks. I just don't see him as an absolute lock star. I can just as easily see Tatum or Jackson as stars. The trade was fantastic, in my eyes. Three is a great place to be in this draft because you get one of Fultz, Tatum or Jackson guaranteed. Plus an extra top 5 pick.

1. I don't think you can judge a player just for a short video.
2. I'm sure Ainge has seen something negative in Fultz we don't (maybe won't) know, and he'd choose another player with the top pick. Hence the trade, to select him, whoever he is, at three.
3. In the process, we get another future asset and save 1'5 million in salary to sign Hayward.

Why do we have to assume that?? Ainge has been scouting these guys all year long.  Maybe he thinks Fultz is a total study, and he has Jackson or Tatum rated higher!  That is what it seems like to me and if so he had to make this trade.

If that's the case, why didn't we wait till draft night to make the trade? What happens if Ainge wants (let's say) Jackson and the Lakers take him at #2?
I assume they have covered this potential situation and clearly were comfortable with going ahead and making the deal before draft night. Maybe they had s reason for doing it now and not then. Maybe they know the guy they want will 100% be there at 3,

I thought the video clarified a couple things I was wondering about Fultz.

He looked out of shape; possibly he has too much muscle weight.  Or he could just not really be interested.  The body language was not great either but that could be for other reasons besides his lackadaisical nature.

The shooting was poor. It could be nothing. But it could be the streaky shooting the scouts talked about in their reports.  That weakness has for the most part been ignored, at least by most fans and teams.

The change in his direction during his attack was impressive and possibly the only highlight.

All of this tells me that his impact will be lessened than we initially thought.  The shooting woes will impact his interior scoring.  He doesn't appear to shine when he is exhausted (something I Ainge is looking specifically for, the bad shooting when you're exhausted tells us that late game heroics are spotty); this is what separates Isaiah from most stars.

It comes down to this: Fultz showed Ainge he isn't a closer.  It made him more expendable.
