My god, what the hell happened? I'm not going to blindly have faith in Ainge. He is not perfect clearly. I mean he made a godfather offer for Winslow. So I think this could easlily end up burning them. If Fultz turns into a franchise player for Philly, I'm pretty much done with this team. It's pretty depressing to see that our team has no future high end P&R prospects. Kind of makes me dislike IT more now, because I think we would've have kept Fultz if it wasn't for him.

Other than Brown, who has the potential to be an all star on this team? Jackson is Iggy, I like Tatum but seems like people aren't high on him. Screw this team. What a waste of investment basically unless something crazy happens. I should've just stopped following the team after the Brooklyn trade haha.

I'm in LA right now on vacation, haha. This news pretty much ruined my trip.

Also, I have seen a number of people using the #3 AND the Lakers/Sac pick as the foundation for a Butler/George trade and I am here to tell you that is not happening. If we were going to deal both of those assets for one of those players, we would have just traded the #1 pick.

If we do trade for Butler, George, or whoever, only one of those picks gets sent out and we still get our opportunity at another high draft pick.

This crystallizes what I'm thinking. I'm banking on a #3, Crowder and Smart for George trade this Summer. Sure, #1, Crowder and Smart would be preferable for Indy, but if #3 gets it done then the Laker or Sac pick will be just gravy for us.

I understand that point, but as has been speculated, I suspect that Danny is trying to put together a package for a trade. In the end though, it comes down to what you think about Fultz' potential. If you think he has a legit chance to be elite, the trade is too risky, if you think he does not have a real chance of being elite, then it makes sense, as he wouldn't elevate the Celts enough.

I've spent the last few weeks talking about a potential trade down, I have no problem with passing on Fultz. I have a problem with the pile of dog**** we got in return.

Maybe it doesn't just come down to what you think about Fultz, maybe it also comes down to who we're targetting in this potential trade we assume will go down... and if it's just one of the Butler's or George's of this world, I have no interest in them. I don't want to build the Utah Jazz to Kevin Durant's Bulls.

Either get me the mighty Thor, or nothing at all. I have zero interest in a bunch of Beta Ray Bills, if you get the reference.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

But Thor (Lebron, Durant, Davis, Stef) is not available. Saying that we should do nothing if we can't get an elite player is not the right way to go IMHO. If DA thinks that Jackson or Tatum is as good or better than Fultz then this trade is the right move. You get the guy you want and get an extra pick too. Think of it this way, if DA was going to take Jackson and not Fultz with the number one pick, then how is it a bad move to do this trade? Why not get the guy you want and an extra pick? DA obviously does not buy into the media consensus that Fultz is the best prospect. Now if he's wrong about Fultz, and Fultz is the best in this draft, then he's failed, but we won't know that for a few years.

I am on board.

I would have been happy either way. With Fultz. Or taking the chance on an extra top 5 pick.

I certainly do not feel like it was a bad trade. I think Ainge got good value.

This is how most people should feel.  I don't understand why everyone here thinks they are better evaluators of basketball talent than Danny Ainge.  They are not.

Reading through these posts, I wanted to respond to almost every negative one. Instead, I'm willing to give people a pass for a couple days until more info comes out. Once we understand more about next year's pick, we will have a more interesting conversation.

There are many in the league that think that Josh Jackson/Tatum are the best available wing players. They are more highly thought of than both Kawhi and Paul Pierce at age 19. There should be a huge demand for them. Every team wants a cost-controlled young stud.

Collecting another top 5 pick next year would be brilliant. Brooklyn, LAL, and Sac will stink next year. Having 2/3 of their 1st rounders is insane.

There's no guarantee that any of these players will be all stars. There's also no telling how long it will take for each player to develop (look at Avery Bradley, considered to be top 3 after high school). I like Danny's approach of taking multiple shots at the top players by having high lotto picks every year. Next year he might be able to draft Deandre Ayton or Mo Bamba. Either should be an extremely marketable asset. I actually think this is a genius move and couldn't be more ecstatic.

The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

Tatum can flat out play and played well vs elite competition. Look up the stats vs UNC, then look at the free throw stats...

2018 Draft u have 2 potential top 5 picks with 4 elite big men to make a run at Davis..

If it's Tatum, one of the best deals Ainge has ever made!

I think it was good value for the pick.  I believe we have a higher ceiling after the trade than we did before it.  But it's also a big gamble; we have a lower floor now too.

Here's the thing:  all four of the top guys have star-level upside.  If Fultz's potential is James Harden, then Jackson could become Kawhi, Tatum could become something between Pierce and Melo, and Ball could be Kidd.  I think the big thing that separates Fultz from the other three is floor - I think he's a lot closer to a sure thing.

To add to that, we're banking on a young, talented team continuing to fail AND favorable luck with the lottery.  We're protected to an extent, but that protection takes the form of another uncertainty - we're then banking on a team continuing to fail two years from now... and again, favorable luck with the lottery.

So we have more upside now, but also more risk.  Would I have done the deal?  No.  But I think I get it, and I'm okay with it.

I have calmed down.

I went from WHAT, to WHAT THE (shhhh) to now actually exploring if we could move down some more and stockpile more assets.

It has sunk in, and I can't do anything about it but hope that Danny is right on this one, because one thing I'm confident in is Markelle Fultz is going to be good, and it will be tough watching him for Philadelphia.
