I'd rather have Griffin

Im 100% with Erik on this one. If we sign Hayward for the max, who does everyone think our starting power forward will be? We already have a huge logjam at the 1-3, no need to add to it when there is another great free agent who plays a position of need and fits our scheme perfectly. If we sign Hayward we will have 8 guys who deserve minutes at the 1-3. That’s way too many and just a poor use of resources. If Griffin’s medical records check out and none of his injuries are chronic, I’d much rather have Griffin.

OK I think I did a poor job explaining one of my points. I completely agree that Hayward is a better player than Crowder. I don't know if Crowder could pull off the same stuff that Hayward does for Utah. But I think that if we move Hayward to Boston, he's going to be filling pretty much the same role as Crowder. We're still going to run the IT/Horford PnR and instead of passing it to an open Crowder, it will be an open Hayward who can shoot or drive. Maybe his FG% increases being wide open, maybe not. All I'm saying is don't expect there to be many situations where we put Hayward into 1v1 ISO. That's just not our offense. I'd rather have Crowder doing his thing and have Blake Griffin ready to take a lob after the 1/5 PnR or cleaning up some boards with putbacks.

If I'm Ainge, the first phone call goes to Blake. If he says no then we can consider Hayward, IMO.

The story with the Celtics has been that they only have one guy who can create his own shot. Hayward can, whereas Jag can't. It's reasonable to believe that CBS wouldn't just plug in Hayward for Jae and continue on the same path; he would surely adjust to accommodate a second scorer.
Having said that, I agree that the price tag for the upgrade is high, and that a productive big would be a better investment.

Because of his ability to create his own shot, Hayward takes many more shots than Crowder. He has more shots available to him period. By you saying his shooting percentage is the same as Crowder you're making the point that Hayward is the more valuable scorer. He has a much better handle, more size, he's a better passer, he's a much more of a complete player.

Crowder is a nice 3 and D player, with a good contract. He's not really valuable at much else. He is know where near a "go to" scorer.

Now to Griffin...I'd love to have the version of Griffin 4 years ago, I'd even settle for the 2017 version. Although EVERYONE agrees his game is aging quickly. I just don't want to tie-up all that money and have him play 50 games a year.

Um, no.  The reason Jae plays the role that he plays is because he is an average offensive player.  Hayward much better and would earn a much bigger role.  That's the whole point.  And to the earlier comment about stats there is a reason for the expression, "lies, [dang] lies, and statistics".  In the wrong hand, stats are dangerous.  One could use stats to prove nearly any point they want to prove.

If Fultz is drafted and Hayward is signed you surely have enough extra guys for some playing time drama.

If Crowder is your first guy off the bench? You are probably a championship contender or, at least closer to being one than you were this season.

Yep, anyone who watched Griffin this season will point out that he do not play with burst anymore. He have now extended his range and his offensive game now relies more on footwork than sheer athleticism.

With that said, I'm still wary of his injury. He could have been the difference maker in the Jazz series but goes down after game 2.

The OP is reaching with Crowder. Yes wing players are valuable in this age of small ball. But he doesn't provide any elite skills to prefer him over Hayward. His shooting is suspect, especially in the playoffs. Getting blown by in his defensive assignments on a consistent basis and completely disappears when his shots are not falling.
