See a lot of talk on here about trading Bradley and Crowder for picks/players. I think if Ainge is willing to trade them--it'd be to bring in a star like Paul George (Butler works too in theory but I like George more)

Here's what Danny should do:

Draft Fultz

Renounce/Waive: Zeller, Jonas, KO, Mickey

Trade Demetrius Jackson

Still don't think we'd have MAX cap space to sign Hayward. It could come down to choosing Rozier & Yabusele or Smart (has to be paid next year), but it can be done.

Trade: Rozier, Bradley, Crowder, BKN 18 for Paul George

Maybe find a 3rd team (Minnesota?) willing to send a future pick to IND for Bradley OR Crowder?

If they can't find a 3rd team, AB will probably just end up being a 1 year rental for the Pacers

Sign Hayward, and use the room exception (RME) and veteran minimum (VM) to sign bigs to compliment Horford and Zizic.

2017-2018 Roster:

IT/Smart
Hayward/Fultz
George/Brown
Horford/VM
RME/Zizic

1) Paul George has talked about playing with Hayward. And at all star weekend, he said he was most excited to see Isaiah Thomas. I think having those two in play, makes George willing to re-sign.

2) Before you complain that this team won't beat GS--take a Iook at the roster. It consists of 4 All Stars in IT, Hayward, George, & Horford--plus our future core: Fultz, Jaylen, & Zizic.

We'd be one blockbuster trade away from adding a talent like Anthony Davis to the roster. Could try and flip Fultz, Jaylen, picks, etc for Anthony Davis when he becomes available.

Or, a couple years after we've signed them, look to trade IT, Hayward, & or George for assets to go with Fultz, Jaylen, Zizic

Your super team probably doesn't make it past the Cavs.  George is probably a 1 year rental so
trading the BKN 18 for him would be a mistake.  That pick will probably end up as a top 5 prospect who we'd have for at least 8 or 9 years.

How are you going to pay your super team after next season?  You'd be looking at 120M just for IT, Hayward, George and Horford.

I like the team but there are huge issues:

1. Paying them all next summer
2. Getting a decent big man for the room exception

TP well thought out. That team coached by Stevens would stand a good chance vs. GSW.  And would beat CLE IMO.

that team gets trounced by Cleveland with only Horford as a starting-caliber player in the frontcourt.  Zizic's a rookie and you're hoping to sign someone at RME and Vet Min money that would provide starter-quality production?  won't be happening

I think they're pretty competitive with Cleveland, although the definite hole is in the Bigs as you point out.  Cleveland and GS just don't play big lineups though, and we played mostly with just one Big against Cleveland, either Horford or KO.  Certainly that would be the case against GS.  I think George matches up pretty well against Love defensively, and I really like that matchup at the other end for us.

So, the NBA is bassackwards in that draft comes before free agency.  I've struggled with this for a while because I believe it should be the other way.

That said, I believe the scenario to watch is; draft Fultz, sign Hayward, trade for Butler.

Lineup in two will be Fultz/Butler/Brown/Hayward/Horford.......

I'm just going to put out my usual.  Trade Rozier for future picks for room to sign Griffin.  Then trade Fultz, Crowder, and Smart for George and Seraphin.  Re-sign Amir and Green at the minimum.  Sign Bogut for the room exception.  Sign Brandon Jennings and Sullinger to minimum contracts.  Other potential low dollar signees if you can't land all of those guys: Zeller, Bass, Foye, Brooks, Udrih, and of course some 2nd round or undrafted type players.

Starters - Thomas, Bradley, George, Griffin, Horford
Bench - Bogut, Johnson, Sullinger, Seraphin, Brown, Green, Jennings
DLeague - Nader, Zizic, #37

With that team I'd try to go back to the old school, slow it down mentality a bit.  You still have electric scorers, but I'd play at a slower pace and really use the size advantage to be had against most teams.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

If I'm not mistaken, I think the luxury tax is projected to be around $125M in 2018-2019

Nonetheless, if KD can take less than the max to prioritize WINNING, I wouldn't put it past guys like PG13, Hayward, or IT (who claim to be about winning a title) to do the same in 2018-2019. Make it work.

Then there's always the option of trading for Butler too. He's under contract for at least 2 more years for around 17M+. We wouldn't have to worry about paying him for another 2 years.

Hayward>Griffin. Theres always the chance we find a solid rim protector. That plus Hayward would compliment the core of IT, George, & Al better imo. Plus the opportunity to land Boogie (if he re-signed in NO) OR Davis down the line would still exist. Horford can play C in a small ball lineup of: IT, Brown or Fultz, Hayward, PG, & Horford

This is unrealistic and it does not take into account the emergence of Jaylen Brown and Fultz.

Smart, Fultz, Brown, Zizic, RME and VM would add 30M+  plus another 5M to fill out the roster would bring our salary total to 155M or 30M above the tax line.  That would be around 80M in tax.

KD is going to take 3.8M less for next season to keep their championship team together but then he'll get his 35% MAX deal.  Hayward is already on a winning team who can pay him more than us.  He isn't taking less than Max.  George wouldn't take less than Max either.  IT would be the odd man out which wouldn't be bad if Fultz is ready to take over starting.

George won't play PF.  He has said this numerous times.  And that line up is so small, it would have significant problems against most teams.

We'd be a super team...either pay the luxury tax even at 80M or trade Marcus to save money.

If Butler is the target, hes only making 18-19M over the next two seasons. Can afford to pay IT, Hayward, Horford, Brown, Fultz, Zizic.

Luxury tax is projected to be around $125M for the 2018-2019 season.

2018-2019 salary:

Horford- $29M
Hayward - $30.9M
Butler - $18.7M
Thomas - $30M
Fultz - $7M
Brown - $5.2M
Zizic - $1.8M
