Wonder if Jazz or Clippers would agree to a S&T. Since C's have some cap space they could make both happen if Hayward and Griffin were willing to take less than the max.

First renouce all the FAs and release non guarantees. Cap # 61+ 8 for Fultz and +6 for Yab and Zizic and its 75 million.

You do AB( -9 ) and Rozier(-2) for s&t of Hayward or Griffin (say 20 million per). We probably also score a draft pick back in said deal. With Cap at 84 million only its enough to sign Griffin/Hayward again if at 20 million. Cap total 104.

C's
IT, Hayward, Crowder, Griffin, Horford
Smart, Fultz, Brown, Yab, Zizic, pick 37.

Look to sign some vet mins or buy out players at min for a few bigs off the bench as Yab and Zizic wont cut it come playoffs. If guys want a chance to win and still make good $ this may be it for them.

A pay cut of that magnitude would be unprecedented.

Not happening.

What are you talking about? LeBron, Wade, Bosh, KD, Aldridge and others did it.

Whoever sign first. Didn't Dwight considered signing with us if Horford resigned with the Hawks?

With that said, both are ideal fit for the team. Hayward have the knowledge and experience playing with Brad's Butler Ball and provides ball handling relief to IT. Griffin is a great passer for a big man and have the post presence we desperately need.

What intrigues me with Blake is he is capable of exposing Durant in the post. Unlike Lebron, he have the post moves along with his strength to abuse KD's lanky body in the paint. Lebron relies badly on his dribble drives, speed and strength.

Griffin easily. Better player, better fit. Would do Milsap over Hayward if Cs didn't have to max him out.

BTW, the likelihood of CP leaving LAC for the SAS is virtually nil.

I just don't get the love for Griffin that some have here.  Vets with extensive injury histories like him don't suddenly get healthy - they just don't.  Anyone who gives this guy a huge contract will end up regretting it.  The guy who dominated in the past is never coming back.

I know this sounds hyperbolic, but I honestly think that Hayward will be a serious MVP candidate if he comes here.  It's kind of cynical because part of my rational is that Hayward is white, but I think Stevens will have a field day using him.

Blake is a better fit but we can't afford to lock up that much salary in an injury risk.

I voted for Griffin because that is who I would take, but I suspect Danny will target Hayward if for no other than reason than Hayward is more likely to sign.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I've been on the Hayward as FA train since we made no moves at the deadline. Figured we knew. (And I still think we do, one way or the other.)

His age, durability, shot-making and his underrated playmaking abilities are the main reason in addition to his shorter learning curve time with CBS.

Hayward could be with us for the next ten years, contending now and later.

Side Note: Jerry West just became the de facto GM of the Clips. Don't think he'll let Griffin leave. I think the chances of Griffin and Paul leaving just went down. He'll also finagle a way to get Bron Bron to join at least Paul there.

A healthy Griffin is the better talent and better fit.

But how can you trust that to happen?

Therefor I would go after Hayward first and then using all that guard depth, go find a starting caliber big man through trades.

I'm a little more willing to gamble on Griffin because the C's are playing with house money right now. They weren't supposed to be this far along in the rebuild at this point and they have some young talent (Brown, Fultz, Brkln '18) that will barely be entering their prime when a Griffin contract expires in 4 years.

And even if Griffin busts, I think the cap stabilizing will make big, expiring contracts valuable like they were before the cap spiked, which means if the worst happens, the contract might only be onerous for 3 years, during which the youngsters are developed. But if it does work, we're contending right now.

All of that is to say that I'm more willing to take a gamble than I otherwise might be. Griffin is the much better fit, Hayward is the safer bet. But Griffin also has the higher upside, IMO. I think I'd go Griffin.

I go with Hayward; he's the better long term fit.  I think the "need" in the frontcourt is overstated right now, because even if we get Hayward or Griffin, we're still probably not on the level of Golden State or Cleveland.

So if that's the case, go with Hayward and in the short term get by in the front court with whoever is available/playing some small ball.  If we're eventually going to lose to Cleveland in the Conference Finals, what does it matter if we have a balanced roster or not?  Then over the next couple of years, focus on filling the holes up front through the draft and free agency to be ready for an extended title run when LeBron breaks down and/or the Warriors break up.

It's hard to say.  Blake is a near perfect fit and was an MVP candidate just a few years ago.  His injury history is scary, though.  Hayward, on the other hand, has been the better player for the past season or two, played for Brad at Butler, and fills a major need by giving us a great wing scorer.

If push came to shove, I'd have the doctors look over Blake's medical records.  If they give a thumbs up, I'd sign him. A thumbs down or some hesitation on a thumbs up and I'd go with Hayward.

I'd be more than happy if we can get just one of them, though

Edit: Griffin also leaves plenty of minutes for Jaylen/Fultz, and if we decided to try to compete now then getting a star SF (like George or Butler) would be much easier than getting a star PF (like Love or maybe Melo)
I'm bitter.

Hayward all day every day.

Hayward isn't going to sign with us for a 3+1, opt out after 3 then go somewhere else.

We sign Hayward this summer there is a good chance he retires a Celtic or isn't gone until he's 34+ after his next two contracts.

What's it come down to? 3 point shooting.  I'll take 6-8 years of Prime Hayward hitting 3's at a high clip over Blake.

The main, intriguing thing to watch for is, adding Griffin and Zizic means our front court is pretty much set (maybe just a small depth signing which should be easy).

If you add Hayward, you STILL NEED a "Good" PF upgrade somewhere, which may be a bit difficult to do (since we also LOSE MLE from signing Hayward).

Say we sign Hayward. How do you propose we add another big here (doesn't have to be a stud, but a moderate PF/C upgrade to go alongside Horford and Zizic).
