Favorite Burger Joint

This came up in another thread and thought it deserved its own.

I lived in Los Angeles for about 6 months right after college and the best part was all the different burger places. I kind of fell in love with In N Out Burger while I was there. Back East, Five Guys is pretty good and I liked Shake Shack the one time I was there.

I never eat burgers at places like McDonalds or Burger King. I'll get a burger at Wendy's if I'm on a long drive, though, and I love McNuggets.

This was always on my bucket list, I missed it the last 2 times I was in Vegas for work! [dang] it I want to get a heart attack from being happy! :)

I'd give that a try. I always wanted to go to Fat Burger while I was in LA but never got around to it and my roommate (who had the car) was, like, morally opposed to eating at a place with that name. I am not.

Mrs Banners and I enjoyed 5 guys a while back. $27 for two burger/fry and one soda. Too much. Good burger, but seemed steep.

Whataburger is my fav. None anywhere near my present residence. Their (940 calorie) patty melt burger is quite fine. Sticks to your ribs.

As a vegetarian, 5 Guys is super cheap for me.  Delicious fries, a soda, and all I can eat peanuts (for my protein) for under $6.  It's very good for my waistline that I changed jobs further away from them.

The first burger that was a religious experience for me was Bartley's, in Harvard Square. My dad would take me there in the late 1970s. Killer milkshakes too.

(Side note: I just googled and it's still there. It's been on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, it's seemingly popular with Yelpers who think it's "totes amazeballs," and they now sell something called a "Caitlyn Jenner burger." Sigh.)

If you live around Boston, I suggest trying RF O'Sullivan in Somerville.  Phenomenal burgers.

The best burger I've ever had was the "glamburger" at Honky Tonk in the UK while I was doing research on Adam Smith.   It ruined all other burgers for me.

Ha! So funny that you started this thread after the earlier conversation, Big3. A worthy thread subject, indeed!

Not sure if we're supposed to include restaurant-type places like Red Robin (which has an awesome western bacon burger), so I'll leave those out for now. I love In N Out, and also Wendy's burgers. Truth be told, my wife makes my favorite burgers. =)

Five Guys for me. Worth the price.

Shake Shack isn't worth it, IMO.

Going to the west coast this fall, looking forward to In N Out.

In N Out is crazy good... and crazy cheap... what is it for a burger and fries, $3.75 or something?

And the meat is local, the fries made on site... heck, you can see the big tub of spuds in the kitchen.

Amazes me they've never expanded beyond the west coast. They would dominate, assuming they kept the quality high..
