This has me worried. I know it's our first #1 pick in ages and we have control of our destiny but I really hope Ainge does not overthink this. Here is a snapshot of his draft history:

2011 - JaJuan Johnson over Jimmy Butler (excusable as no one saw Jimmy Butler coming)
2012 - Sullinger and Melo over picks like Draymond and Crowder (ok still excusable)
2013 - Olynyk over Giannis (slightly less inexcusable despite Game 7 last week as Giannis had a bit of hype before the draft. Gobert was on the table as well if Ainge really wanted a Center.)
2014 - Young over Hood (This I don't get as they both were doing the same thing in college but Hood was more polished and ready to contribute.)
2015 - Rozier over Portis (Terry's doing fine and it's still early but I had a feeling before the draft that  Portis will be a beast and this may happen sooner than later.)
2016 - Jaylen Brown (I love Jaylen Brown)

I am really praying Ainge doesn't talk himself into Ball or Jackson (fine players but I don't see them as gamechangers like I do Fultz). 34 days left!!

Here are some Fultz highlights that I hope Ainge is watching!!!

Young was projected to be a top 5 pick. Everyone had him as bpa at 16. It was basically a toss up between Rodney hood, Gary Harris, and James young at that pick

Sully at once point was projected to be the 1 pick.

No major worries for me. At least not yet. :P I'm pretty confident we are gonna draft Fultz.

The pick that makes me feel sad (even to this day) is Kelly over Giannis. Danny definitely blew that one. But then again, so did 14 other GMs that night.

The only pick that legitimately raised eyebrows was the Rozier pick and it looks like Danny was spot on with that one.  Really this whole board would probably agree that Danny evaluates talent for the guard position extremely well.  So if Danny thinks a guard is the best player in the draft, he probably is. Danny it's going to draft Fultz, he's not messing this up.

In danny we trust

I wouldnt be shocked if he ends up trading the pick or drafting Tatum, Jackson instead

Jaylen Brown , Rozier choices shows how little he cares about what the media/outside thinks

Outside of Kelly and Young

Danny usually tends to draft these top level athletes with long wingspans.... Something to keep in mind

Jackson is a great prospect, and if we'd wound up with the 3rd pick I would have been only mildly disappointed. IMO, there's no way we draft Ball.

None of the examples you mentioned bear any resemblance to our current situation. Half the NBA passed on Giannis, he wasn't considered to be more of a can't miss prospect than those drafted around him.

Not sure why everyone brings up Brown like that pick came in from left field, he was always in the 2nd tier of players after the 1st 2 picks. On the other hand, Fultz alone is the 1st tier of this draft.

There's really no argument anyone can make, Fultz is the best player in the draft and everyone knows it. It's not like we're debating between Simmons and Ingram. The only way that we don't draft him is if someone makes an incredible offer, and that just isn't going to happen.

Sit back and enjoy it, we're going to draft Fultz.

The only prospect who fits the Ainge profile who might be in the mix for number one is Josh Jackson.

But typically when there's such a strong consensus on the number one guy in a draft, that guy gets drafted. Usually a consensus top guy turns into a quality player, if not a perennial All Star.

I understand the concern, but I really think the Celts are in an easy position here. Take the clear cut best guy and pencil him in as a fixture on your team for years to come.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

You could argue that other players have similar ceilings as Fultz (Giles, Jackson, Ball, maybe Fox) but his floor is so much higher than everyone else's and thus he has to be the pick.

How so?

Rich toucher asked if he has one or two players in mind

Danny said no

Even with Fultz considered to go #1...Danny will workout 3-4 top prospects

I honestly think Danny goes with Fultz if he does pick at #1. Barring any trade, Fultz is the man.

Its called due diligence.  And, if DA does end up going in another direction you better believe it's because he feels that player is better.  So you may not like it, but I think I'm going to trust DA rather lock into a certain player (though I too think fultz is the best player).

If Danny Ainge drafts Lonzo Ball he should be fired on the spot.
