Obviously it would be great to get something for Kelly, but I just don't know why he would choose to be signed and traded when he can just choose a team of his liking. It really only works if he wants to go to a franchise that is already over the cap. With the cap once again expanding, he will certainly have more options than usual.
I guess Olynyk probably doesn't make a lot of sense, but I image even just the Brooklyn 2018 + Bradley should have strong value on the trade market.
A team like Indiana for example - that could give up George (who has the ability to walk next year anyway) and could build around Bradley, Turner and whoever they get with the 2018 pick (likely top 5). Could very rapidly expedite their rebuild.
If we could get sufficient interest from Gordon Hayward in free agency, then maybe we could even offer Bradley, Crowder AND the 2018 Brooklyn pick for George.
We could move forward with Thomas, Fultz, Hayward, George, Horford - then I believe we'd be able to use bird rights to re-sign George and Thomas.
Hard to imagine Pacers saying no to that. They move forward with Bradley, Crowder, Turner and a potential top 5 pick in 2018 - hell of a young core to build around.
Ditto the Bulls for Butler. Rondo and Wade could very easily both walk this offseason, in which case the Bulls would be holding on to Butler and a bunch of spare parts. Why waste 2 or 3 best years of Butler's career rebuilding? They could move him, get a trio of very nice assets in return, and start a rebuild.
I feel like moving the 2018 pick makes more sense then keeping it right now. Bradley/Smart on their own are solid assets, but not valuable enough to bring back a star. But Bradley/Smart plus 2018 1st
could well be valuable enough to get us a star.
I think best thing is to make that move now while the sight of that Brooklyn #1 pick is still fresh in the mind of opposing teams. Let them dream about what they could achieve with a Brooklyn pick of their very own - and a very nice young starter thrown in for good measure.
