Sort of torn.

I think trading Smart makes more on the court sense if the Celtics take Fultz.   There would be plenty of PG skills on the team with IT, Fultz and Rozier.

AB's outside shot would be more valuable, especially with two guys that can draw the defense.

But the future cost of AB....

What is the future cost of AB, really? He doesn't need to be paid until the dust settles on next years free agency. The C's won't have cap space after that for the foreseeable future regardless of what happens to AB. There are two years of overlap on Horford's contract.

Keep him and pay the bill. The owners will need to spend some money, but it will be worth it. If we get a shot at a max free agent, we move on from some combination of Smart, Rozier and/or Crowder before we look at Avery.

If we get a max guy this off-season and max IT out or close to it, we're gonna be maxed out. I'd peg Avery in the $18m - $20m range.  I don't think the luxury tax bill is worth it.

I'd say trade Avery for a big and try to reach an extension with Marcus Smart. I'm fine with IT/Fultz/Smart being the primary guard rotation. We need to utilize assets to address the frontcourt.

It might just come down to which of those two (AB or Smart) brings back the better return.

2018 is a draft loaded with great big men. No way I'm giving up the Nets '18 pick for anything other than an incredible deal.

I don't think it makes any sense to trade a prospect like Fultz for anything short of the Greek Freak or Curry.

For example:

Jae, Rozier and BK 18 for Porzingis and Kuzminskas
That is giving Porzingis up for like $0.75 on the dollar with the chance of making $2.00 on the $1.00.  It gives the Celtics a rebounding big who can shoot the 3 with long term potential, a decent wing and $1.5 million extra in cap space.

Then renounce/waive/don't resign: Amir, Zeller, Jerebko, Young, D. Jackson, Mickey, Green for $30.5 million.  Sign Hayward.

Then we have:

IT / Fultz
Bradley / Smart
Hayward / Brown
Horford / Yabu
Porizingis / Zizic

And I'm sure we could get some vet minimums in there after that.  Title contender next year and a young core of Fultz / Smart / Brown / Zizic that will contend down the line, too.

Why give up Fultz?  I don't get it.  We have so much flexibility to add something without giving up a player with the ceiling like that.
