Factors such as crowd noise, seats being filled (or not), "intimidation factor", etc.

I'd think TD Garden would at least be, no question, Top-10 in this category. Even guys like Lebron have said that playing against BOS @TD Garden is really difficult and hostile in the playoffs.

I thought it was an interesting thing to discuss with Game 7 tomorrow, and while watching the Spurs-Warriors game, I hate the Warriors, but man, Oracle Arena went BESERK in the 2nd half, especially during that 18-0 run after Leonard went down. Insane atmosphere at the game today.

So what do you guys think?

Most sites around the web have differing opinions and rankings too.

Yep, I also think OKC would be #1 or #2 IMO. Love the color schemes (blue is my favorite color too lol), but the fans also get rowdy during games.

I was thinking the opposite today while watching the game, quiet as a mouse when they were behind.

the home crowd should understand that the team needs you the most when they are down. It sucks when the home crowd allows the visiting team to take them out of the game. Home crowd should be behind their team throughout the game. Loud when they are down, and even louder when they rally.

That was sensational.

They've done the same thing when they've lost the last two years at home in elimination game (Game 4 vs. CLE, Game 6 vs. ATL)

I havent checked rankings on various sites or anything, but from watching the playoffs and hearing what other teams players occasionally say about our fans, not just this year but over the years.  Hearing what national announcers say about our fans... I think we are held in very high regard, probably top 3.

The game 6 chant is pretty much the greatest thing I've ever seen from an NBA crowd and our fans have tried to live up that ever since.  I was at Paul's final game in the Garden this year and we cheered "We Want Paul" for 2 hours straight.  The cheering when he finally came on and after the game was insane.

“I still hear my name ringing in my head because that’s all I heard when I was on the court" - Kelly Oubre

“We didn’t think it would be those type of words,” Wall told reporters, shocked at the vulgarity of the fans chant

"‘Dad, when we were playing Boston, they were down 15 points and they were cheering their team like they were winning the game. They’re so into the game.’ " - Al Horford while he was Hawk

"They have the best fans in the NBA.... some of the best fans" - Gordon Hayward correcting himself to not make the Jazz fans mad after the Celtics chant his name for a whole game

"Did you hear our crowd in the last 3 minutes? What other crowd does that?" - Doc Rivers

"It's unbelievable, that just shows we have the best fans in sports not just basketball" - Rondo

"These are the best fans I've ever played in front of or have ever seen in my life.... we were down 20 and these people were on their feet cheering for us... it's something I will remember for the rest of my life" - Ray Allen

TP. Well said!

Hayward will have it tough because I think Utah has GREAT fans too LOL. They even chanted his name at the end.

I remember Garnett talking about the building shaking while the team was in the locker room before coming out for warmups for a playoff game.

My question is - Wasn't the old Garden louder ??

Personally, I loved that place. As a kid growing up in Tennessee and having fallen in love with the Celtics during their 60's run of titles, I heard all the stories of the old, creaky Garden, dirty and full of rats. I finally made it to a game, Easter Day 1985 vs Knicks. The place was old, yes, but clean as a pin, everything kept up, painted and shiny. I will never forget the PA announcer (at a normal tone, not screaming) when Bird led the team out for warmups, "Ladies and Gentleman, Your World Champion Boston Celtics." Pure Magic.

Is that a real Gordon Hayward quote?

Im pretty sure that quote should be attributed to Devin Booker after his 70 point game.

I was also there, and when he made that 3 at the end of the game, I'd never heard anything like it. Absolute pandemonium.

I think we're definitely the best in the East. Toronto, Chicago and New York may also be in the mix. I'd probably put OKC and Golden State first and second overall, and then us third.

Loved the old Boston Garden. That place should have never been torn down. So much history, so many memories. Even today, the C's should have been playing their home games at the old Boston Garden, just like the Red Sox are still playing at Fenway Park.

Anyway, Boston fans are definitely up there with the best NBA fans. Having said that, NBA fans are nothing compared to basketball fans in Europe.

Just crazy stuff, yet basketball isn't even the most popular sport in Europe. ;D ;D

Exactly! At my home, in Europe, we measure quality of the crowd (fans) by chanting while their team is behind. That's when your team needs you most.
