are we closer than what Danny thought at the trade deadline? Would a few little moves have put us over the top into the conversation with Cavs and GSW? Are we in the conversation?

Having watched how thoroughly Cleveland is demolishing Toronto, despite their acquisition of two of the players we most wanted, no, I don't think those moves would have put us over the top.
This is kind of what I'm thinking, too. Cleveland was sleep walking for most of the regular season and now they're murdering Toronto. If the C's advance, it might be an interesting series or it might be like that Cleveland game in April where the C's looked like amateurs.

The streak is great but it doesn't change history.
I'll admit I was wrong, I wanted Ibaka/Tucker, really thought they could put the Celtics in a position to compete with CLE, but obviously that would not have worked out that way.

Toronto is getting crushed because DeRozan has been awful. Nothing to do with Ibaka or Tucker.  Ibaka has actually played well on both ends of the court. Raptors can't guard James either. Lowry had done great against Irving and Ibaka has limited Love.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

If the C's picked up KD35 last summer, or maybe Cousins, then the Celtics would have been in the same conversation with Golden State and Cleveland.

My expectations are...Celtics should get past the East Semis before getting wasted in the East Finals. Unless a big injury happens to one of the Cavs' Big 3.

I think the Cavs would survive even an injury to Love or Kyrie; as long as they have LeBron, they have the best team, because LeBron's still the best player in the game and gets the most calls.

As far as Danny's thinking, I think he views any success this season beyond a first-round win as gravy, like playing with house money. Don't get me wrong; he'll take the success now. I just think he's not expecting a higher level of success just yet.
Can we stop with the narrative that Lebron somehow gets favoritism from the refs.  Dude may be on his way to supplanting MJ as the greatest player of all time and he's earned every bit of it.  He's pretty much that good.

Ahahahahahahahahahahaha!! That is hilarious! LeBron has been getting MJ calls since he entered the league!

No other player in the history of the NBA has been so coddled by the refs!

A lot of his "greatness" comes from his traveling, getting MJ calls, and plowing over people on offense.

MJ did it with out steroids and HGH.

LeBron has no competition compared to MJ. He has one team in his way, and when he's about to lose to that team, the league screws over the superior team to create a narrative that there is parity where there is not, and create a false rivalry.

Don't even get me started on the MIA super team.

LeBron will never at any point in his career surpass Kobe, MJ, Duncan, Oscar, or even Barkley for that matter.

And there is a reason that he was shoved into the spotlight...

When Kobe went down to the rape charges (PR wise), the NBA shoved Iverson down our throats.  (Both are superior talents than LeBlowhard BTW). Turns out AI wasn't exactly an ambassador of Public relations either, so the league was desperate for a new poster boy at that point. Cue LeBron and ESPN broadcasting his highschool games and get ready for the most coddled and overrated star the league has ever seen.

There's your "narrative" bro. Sorry your hero is a false icon  ;)

No change.  No small move puts Boston in Cleveland's class.
I still think Boston should have acquired Cousins. He could have potentially made a difference against Cleveland especially if the price was essentially Brown, Zeller, and picks.

You're ignoring what those "picks" would be.

personally I would not have traded Brown straight up for Cousins.

I like this team as it is constituted and am very glad DA stayed put. Could we have added a vet via trade? Yes. But the young legs of this team could prove to be a differentiator.

Gotta love this team and the additions which will come on May 16th and in the offseason. I do see us losing one of our current guards via trade (I predict Avery Bradley).

I haven't watched the series.  Isn't Tucker supposed to guard James?

it's got me thinking this team is still what it is --> a bunch of jumpshooters that live and die by the jumper.  when they're hitting, they can beat anyone.  when they're not, they can lose to anyone.  they don't play with consistent effort --> they've started 3 of the 4 halves sleepwalking against Washington and have had to fight to come back out of some serious holes they never should have been in.

thankfully they've been hitting their shots since game 3 of the Chicago series.  we're due for a night of ice-cold shooting.  wouldn't surprise me if it was tonight in game 3.  if it does, watch the swing in the fan base temperament where people are ready to throw everyone on the team under the bus.

If you play team ball and execute.  You can beat anyone in this league.

We are playing our best basketball at the moment, actually our limit, which is totally fine and let's just not overract now when we are good, just as when we were down 0:2 vs Bulls and started thinking that this team sucks. We are good, and soon even better.

The success (or more accurately failure) of the Nets this season contributed greatly to Ainge not trading for Cousins.  I know CBS probably argued against acquiring this knucklehead, but if the Nets had finished with say the 8th worst record in the league (similar to New Orleans who finished 10th worst) then Ainge may have felt that was a pick worth giving up to acquire Cousins, along with other players/later picks.

So blame the Nets more than anyone for Cousins not being a Celtic right now.

Well, I did say he's still the best player in the game, so it's not like I'm not giving him due credit.

But to say that he doesn't receive favoritism from the refs is false. I think everyone who follows the NBA knows that the star players get better treatment (generally speaking), and in LeBron's case, he's a physical freak of nature who really doesn't need any special treatment—he's that good—but he gets it anyway. He's pretty much allowed to steamroll through anyone.

Hear, hear.  TP.  This narrative illustrates what an embarrassment Celtic fans are.  They are the worst part of rooting for this franchise.

This is a strong team, but we're still going to be underdogs against Cleveland despite home court, and if we miraculously make it to the Finals, we'll get eviscerated by GSW. PJ Tucker and Serge Ibaka aren't changing that.

yeah i watched that game last night. wow. cavs are so deep like those heat teams.  The raptors look to have a couple good guys down low also in SI and JV. We definitely could use one of those types now to help Al. at times both looked good in the post yet they still got blown out missing support in other areas. We need a post game badly when our spacing fails do to cold 3 point shooting thus allowing defenders to lay off outside shots better prepared to collapse and defend the drives to the hoop.
LET'S GO CELTICS!
